As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Maybe they will be making a big summer signing with the extra cash
Funny how people can have all sorts of principles and honour but then Qatar waves a cheque and all of a sudden they're hosting a World Cup and having their name splashed on Barca's shirts.... Next thing you know they'll have the naming rights to a new football stadium !

I'm not a Barcelona fan, but a couple of things in this thread seem rather hypocritical.
Firstly, calling them "whores" for accepting sponsorship rights. Uhh, don't we sell shirt sponsorship every season? And isn't our stadium sponsored too, something that the Nou Camp isn't?
Also, Barcelona are short on funds, and are often criticised for taking money from the Spanish government. However, they now take funds by legitimate means and yet they're still criticised? Seems like they can't win.
Don't get me wrong, I too dislike Barcelona - but not for the reasons mentioned in this thread.

I think it's the fact that they got great publicity about the fact that they didn't get/need/want shirt sponsorship....so funny that they've now dropped their draws when the payment is in cash!
As for stadium naming.....that little dig wasn't aimed at Barca it was directed to the other end of the Seven Sisters Road. I've never liked our stadium being referred to in the media as the Emirates. Wouldn't it be great if Qatar came up with an offer that 'arry and friends couldn't refuse....
PS not sure if I'd describe Arab or Russian money as "legitimate". If you look at how they make and keep their money it's all a bit tainted!

please explain, i live in dubai and work in Qatar so i would be interested to know what your take is on the middle east. it riles me how the british press offer un-true and propaganda style coverage of the middle east. two little examples.
the sun referred to qatar as the oil rich country - WRONG!! they own almost 80% of the worlds natural gas reserves - no oil!!
the sun states freddie flintoft is set to quit dubai as he cant watch corrie out here - WRONG!! i guess it wasn't corrie i watched the other night on OSN!!!
oh and it is regarded as a fact over here that the WC 2022 will be moved to january will be announced in a few years time. watch this space!!!
My impression of the Arab states is that most are run on feudal lines similar to England of the Middle Ages. The ruling families have unbelievable privilege but the majority of citizens - foreign workers from Asia? - are effectively in servitude. I'd imagine that the ruling families enjoy the excesses of the west while ensuring that their own citizens are punished severely if they step out of line at home.
I may be wrong, but my impression was that most Arab states are not democracies as we would understand them and if they are allowed to vote would imagine that this would exclude said foreign workers....?
Can you vote? Are there Christian Churches in Qatar and the other Arab states? Can you happily walk through customs with a copy of the bible under your arm? Wealth earned by denying others freedom is IMHO gained illegitimately.
My impression of Russia is that the wealth of the country is entirely in the hands of a few oligarchs loyal to Putin and therefore anyone who has managed to become wealthy in such a short period since the end of communism probably hasn't done so through what I would recognise as legitimate means.
