i think he played well yesterday, frank. squillaci was the only one to blame for their goal, and koscielny (once again) made a few precise tackles in important moments of the match.

i like koscielny, i think he can become a good player. but still, right now my centreback partnership would be vermaelen and djourou.
But (yet again) found himself the wrong side of Partizan's forwards on several occasions last nite. The same Partizan forwards who failed the find the back of the net once against the other oppo in our group in four games.

If u aint got positional sense as a defender by the time you're 25 you aint ever having positional sense as a defender.

He has no pace. He lunges in. He's physically weak.

All in all a typical Wenger defensive signing.

not my case, sid. i don't care how much the players cost. i look at the performances, and while koscielny is still far from a very good premier league defender, i think he has the qualities that can make him become one, IF he works hard enough and has the talent that i believe he has. right now he is 4th choice imo.

i think we have one very good and 3 good central defenders. they look a lot worse because arsenal can't defend as a team. our defenders are usually in bad positions but not only for their errors, but because we have 5 offensive players, plus 2 fullbacks that love to go forward and an "anchorman" in midfield that plays more like an attacking midfielder. that leaves the two centrebacks as the only players whose responsability is mainly defend.

I have no doubt able Kos’s tackling ability. We knew this before he came to us and that he had made the most tackles in the French league out of all defenders. Apparently he didn’t miss one tackle for his club all season.

At arsenal I have seen him make great timed tackles that have been world class. However that’s where his skills stop for me.

He is weak, fragile, skinny, not commanding, not much pace, no strength and very quiet. I think it was pathetic that he went off after that tackle to be honest. It wasn’t concussion or a head injury it was him being a pussy after a knock to the chin.

We’ve all seen far worse to cb’s and any world class CB would dust him self off and get on with it, ride through the pain.

The lad doesn't look upto the job so far. The thought of him and Squillaci up against Rooney and/or Berbatov on Monday night gives me nightmares :?

I can remember Tony Adams getting a kick on the chin, then jumoing to his feet to ask the ref not to book the player.

give him another 125 games?

he nearly suffered concussion a month ago?

his english aint great?

he needs to put on weight?

not his fault he has no talent?

he's not used to travelling up the m60?

it was an 8oc kick off?

three out of five things he was required to do he done well?

it was too foggy?

his gloves didn't match?

the horrible english game is too fast for him?

he's narrowing it down to one fuck up a game?

in the French 2nd division he was a proper prospect?

when he's focused he can take a mean throw on?

Squillaci was far worse than him. Actually thought Koscielny looked pretty decent, apart from a few iffy moments.

You should be directing your anger at the other Frenchie who makes Senderos look like a world beater.

kos is a fish out of water at this level

squillaci is no better but that's beside the point, like someone saying gus ceaser is world class compared to selsdon

as soon as he went charging up for that header i knew we were in trouble

i guess his supporters will point out the fact that he manged to get back but they're failing to see the point, a defender needs to play with the ball in front of him

kos is clueless and common sense defending you can't teach at 25

think about it - how many times have we seen him flat on his arse on the halfway line, committed, out of the game, forward clear run on goal

almost every game

But...

awful positional sense, panic stations when a high ball comes in, rash decision making - these are things that should come as naturally to him as breathing
I said the above on the 7th August - nothing changed has it

Ideally he'd be our 4th choice CB and we'd go out and buy a really top bracket experienced CB to partner Vermaelen but Turnip payed 10m for him which means he'll play him no matter what. :banghead:

I don't want to worry you but....
USMartin wrote:If Koscielny was fourth-choice and our first choice wasn't hurting I could be very happy with him, but with No Vermaelen to anchor the central defence and only Squillaci and Djourou as central defenders beside him it simply isn't close to good enough - period.
