I think the problem with Song and Wilshere sort having confusing roles is that Jack is still not there yet in terms of full physical development and full confidence, Song has both of those now already.
I think that right now we need more immediate goal threat up front, but in order to get that we have top weaken ourselves defensively a bit more even then. I think if any manager had their druthers they would play them the way their skills would suggest, but right now Song has like fiour league goals to Jack's one and not only is finishing better when he gets the chances but is earning more chances for himself than Jack really has.
Jack's time will come in that regard. Cesc didn't exactly overwhelm as a scorer straight away either. But right now again because of that it actually makes some sense to let Song play a bit more freely and get more involved upfront.
I think the thing to worry about is him losing the capacity to sit back deep altogether which can happen sometimes. If he had a boit more pace it wouldn't be so bad but Song doesn't - and this is why even when he has played the deeper lying role we have still been shredded by counters as either the opponents run through the center of the park unchallanged or if Song gets caught coming forward to challnge he can't get back once the ball is played in behind him quickly enough.
And with a shaky back four and questionable keepr that is not good at all.
So at least now he is getting us some goals which can off-set that a bit, and Jack offers some of the pace Song lacks tracking back and while Song is a much better on-ball defender, Jack can do just about enough on the ball to justify this tactical shift.

Song and Yaya are different players.
Yaya is a box-to-box beast with a great engine. Song is a sitting defensive midfielder and always has been till this season.
Agreed they are different players, but it's still the same system was all I was saying.
For the record, I'm not defending it; I'm not totally convinced by it yet, but could be good in 1-2 seasons when they've got the experience to run it properly.

No it's usually the ref or my own parents - they seem to think I'm playing their little angels in the wrong positions
You can't polish a turd I tell em
That's not fair actually, got a decent team with one or two cracking little players, Sacha being the pick. But typical of my football llife he's been out injured all season
