unfair fixture list

Post by highburyJD »

I remember hearing Liverpool fans moaning about the fixture list a few seasons ago and laughing - we all play the same teams home and away

That said - after CL game we had 5 out of 6 away and all tough games
then over Xmas we had less time than anyone else between games (only team playin Mon Wed Sat Wed) AND had two title challengers in chavski and shitty

but neither did it sign us a keeper or a decent center half :?

if you ask me the fixture computer is 100% to blame for us not winning the quad 8)

Sorry mate but you've been listening to Arsene or Fergie too much.

We've got to play 38 games over 9 months and whinging about the fixtures is a non-starter.

I think the fixture list has been a little tough on us in previous seasons, eg when we had to play all the top teams over a 3 or 4 week period which coincided with clge and fa cup games.
I think our fixtures this season have actually given us a chance of success (if it wasn't for tinkerman wenger)
We have played all the top teams away, unless you want to count the spuds, where as the others (utd in particular) have a much tougher final few months of the season.
So when we fail this season, some should look a lot closer to home for the reason, rather than blaming the fixture list.

I thought most teams only had a 48-hour turnaround between games at Christmas? It’s just most of them played Sunday/Tuesday & we played Mon/Wed. We had one day less between Wed & Sat I guess, but then we had an extra day compared to Manure between Sat & last night, and the Chavs (Sun/Wed). Swings & raandabaats mate, swings & raandabaats.

Whilst I agree that the positioning of certain fixtures can make things a tad more difficult, ultimately it's not enough to determine the out-come of a league played over 38 matches and a 9 month period if the players/squad is good and strong enough.

The strongest most consistant team ALWAYS wins the PL. It might piss us off that that team has been either manure or the chavs since 2005 but it is still the truth. I never buy into this fixture list bollocks. Every team at some stage has game congestion and/or a run of difficult away games.

Agreed it can make life difficult but it happens to everyone at some stage.

It really isn’t that simple though is it? Scheduling plays a part in things. For example, it is a fact, (yup, a fact), that teams competing in the champions league have a relatively poor record when playing away from home straight after a midweek champions league match. This season I think Arsenal have the most matches away from home after champions league matches – that is a definite disadvantage. Likewise, having less recovery time between matches as Arsenal have had over Xmas is a disadvantage.

I’m aware the team are entirely capable of mucking things up even when fully rested but to completely disregard the impact scheduling has on results (and team selections – do you think Wenger would have rung the changes to such an extent at Wigan if we weren’t in the middle of a fixture glut?) is to simplify things to far – it’s along the same lines as those people who completely disregard tactics by arguing “football is played on the pitch, not on a piece of paperâ€

If you get hard runs of matches then at some point youll get a run of easier ones too.

At the end of the season the best team wins, the worst team comes last no arguments

Did we though? :? I haven't analysed the other teams schedules but it all seemed to even out a bit over the 4 games. It's never gonna be 100% equal but it didn't seem overly harsh on us relative to others.

From memory these were the schedules for us, mancs & chavs. Cant remember totts or city’s off-hand.

Arsenal: Mon - Wed - Sat - Wed
Manure: Sun - Tue - Sat - Tue
Chavs: Mon - Wed - Sun - Wed

All 3 had a 2-day turnaround to start with. We had a day less between the 2nd & 3rd matches compared to the other 2, but we had a day extra between the 3rd & 4th. All looks pretty even to me. Obviously you could also take into account the schedule of the teams each of us faced but fuck working that out. Either way, it’s hardly anything to complain about. :?
