No summer signings??!
No summer signings??!
So Wenger has come out today and said we don't need to sign any players to win the title because our young players will all have matured (yes in 3 short months).
What are your thoughts

I cant believe Wenger"s comments. If he thinks the present squad can challenge for the title let alone win it he must be watching a different team.Chelski and Man utd will be spending £40 million plus and liverpool wont be far behind. How can we compete with them without spending any money.Every Arsenal fan knows we need at least two experienced players to help the youngsters. We need a new centre half.a wide man who can beat a man and put in crosses(Ribery) and we are crying out for a 20 goal a season striker who can put away some of the many chances we keep creating. Its going to be a very depressing summer if this story is true.

Next years we might challenge in UEFA Cup
If we dont get streanghten with an Stone Cold CM like Gilberto and tally and responsible CB we are done for title challenge and Champions League. We concede goals most of the time because are defense is without responsibility, Gallas and toure are not bad but the other ones are weak, even gallas some times screwed up.
The comments coming from Arsene are worrying. However I'm trying to comfort myself with the thought that he has said the exact same thing in previous years when we have gone out and bought. Why say it then?? Because a) He doesn't want to undermine the current players by publicly declaring he's looking for replacements and b) He doesn't want to alert the rest of the footballing world that he's looking for players. Or am I just kidding myself.......??
The club announced a couple of months ago that Arsene would have around £20m to spend in the summer. Well Birmingham, Sunderland and Sheff Utd (Prem status permitting) have recently announced they will have £20m to spend!! With the new TV deal even relegation candidates can find £20m!!
As well as the glaringly obvioud need for width, I'd love to hear Arsene's justification for not needing to buy a centre back? Bare in mind it's the African Nations again next season (February?). We'll lose Kolo for a good month leaving us with just Gallas, Senderos and Djourou at the same time that the Champions League re-starts. That's worrying even without injuries to any of those three, and if they get injured?????

The succes of our team next season depends on the quality of our strikers. We have proven that we have the caliber of midfielders and defence to deliver consistantly good ball into the box area and if we have two or three players that can convert these chances then without doubt our season will be successful. having said that we do need a genuine wing player Rosicky has done a great job this year on the left however Hleb just isnt up to scratch so the signings i would like to see this summer are first and foremost Ribery and if buget allows a striker of sorts, this said we have two excellent strikers in Henry and RVP and our lack of goals has been due to both of their injuries at inopportune moments and for such long periods.

summer signings
I can only assume Wenger has either got a couple of signings up his sleeve or he's totally lost the plot! How on earth can he justify not strengthening the current squad? I've been amazed in the past when we've won the LEAGUE and not gone out a added to the squad, but to go three years without even looking remotely likely to win Premiership it beggers believe that he thinks we're ok for players.

I think wenger made a good point when he said look at Manure, last yr they brought only one player and sold one plaeyer and the won the title this season after a poor season. We have alot of youngsters who will improve heaps in little time, we need to give them that time to mature. The only signing i'd like to see is a natural winger. we have good strikers when fit, maybe a full back aswell. We should get a better start to next season as we are more use to the new stadium, and the younger players have a seasons more experience.

The Mancs finnished 2nd & a good few points ahead of us last season! They needed a central defender and bought a quality international,we've let 3 of our best players go in the last 2 seasons and not brought in enough quality to replace them.My theory has always been you should improve the squad, never rest on your laurels which I have to say is the feeling I've got following previous title wins.I hate seeing us not challenge for the title but we all have to be honest and admit we're a long way off the pace. The double over ManUre makes it all the more frustrating but we are too lightweight! We need another centre half,a proper wide player and if you think Adebayor will ever get you regular goals you are truely mistaken!

If the rumours about this are true, then that's one of the priority areas addressed at least. Lehmann had a decent enough season last year, but he had his mind focused by the imminent World Cup. This season he seems to have reverted to being more interested in rag dolling opponents at set pieces rather than claiming the ball. Don't know anything about this Polish bloke though.N22Gooner wrote:Apparently we've got a polish keeper 22yrs old looks the dogs on youtube but then again it is youtube..
Like a lot of others, I think the other priority is a genuine wide player who can take on and beat defenders and get behind the massed ranks we always encounter at the 18 yard line. That said, we'd still need others to actually get in the box and get on the end of crosses.
