How Wenger could have a £60m transfer warchest (10/5)
usual thread starter... blimey. quite a few out the door for for this writer, eh? Mind you if Gallas and Swiss Tony do both go, signing an under-21 year old is hardly going to leave us well covered at the back is it...

With regard to the Arsenal defence.
In our opinion what is needed is more organisation than new players. And this is relatively easier to achieve for this season than buying new defenders and trying to integrate them into a cohesive unit.
What Arsenal need to address however, for the medium to long term, is to recruit English defenders as they are much more capable in dealing with the style of the English game where there are a lot of long high balls pumped into the area to strong centre forwards. This is one reason why Arsenal concede from dead ball situations.
Look at the English defenders of other top teams like Terry for Chelsea, Carragher for Liverpool and Rio Ferdinand for Man Utd.

£60M yeah but no squad. You can't raise money at the expense of good squad players. We are left thread bare by this article, not the way to go about winning the title. Sell Gallas, Senderos and Eboue and bring in Younes Kaboul OR Davies. 3 players out 1 in? Hleb and Freddie out Babel Ribery in - much the same. Beast Reyes and Aliadiere out - In Darrren Bent / Huntelaar.
Very short in cover and not capable of winning the league in my opinion.
What I think Wenger should do is get rid of Reyes £10M, Aliadiere £5, And get Eto'o in £25M should do it. Yes I know Manure are in for him but I honestly don't think he will sign for them. He and Henry are great friends and in his recent 4-4-2 interview Eto'o spoke highly of Tel.
A possible swap deal with Senderos and Davies could possibly work, might involve a cash element.
As Wenger suggests the kids have gained a lot of experience over the last few seasons and will be better next season. Andy Gray said before the Liverpool game 'There not far off' We don't need a major overhaul. Better coaching with the defence to ensure we don't conceed silly goals and some clinical finishing and we will be right up there.

Players
If we sell all of those players, who would we be left with, traore is not ready for a a call up for the first team, and back up players such as merida and vela are still a way off! You would need to bring in some premiership players such as tim cahill or darren bent, And as we know eto'o is a class player but look what happened to sheva when he arrived at the chavs....
I think we should go for:
Gordan: 4m
Vanden Borre: 3.5m + Curtis Davies 6m
Ribery 14m or Tuncay 8m (bring back reyes)
Appiah 5.5m
Klass-Jan Huntalaar 13m

For me, the most disappointing thing I have seen for a long time appears almost dead centre of the clubs home page.
It reads "Buying not always the key to the title"
Is it me or does this statement declare the clubs position on spending this summer? Once again we will sit in the background watching the worlds best players moving from club to club whilst we do nothing. Our rivals will be strengthened and refreshed for the new campaign and we will resume with our team of 'brilliant youngsters'.
I'm not knocking the efforts of the lads at all. What I am saying is that I believe that the board have once again pressured AW to make a statement on transfers to deflect criticism from their door.
We were supposed to have a "sizeable" transfer budget this year following the move to The Grove. What we have is the usual pony and trap being spouted out to cover the fact that we are still skint.
Maybe the only way to buy anybody is to sell some young hopefuls. I do hope not!

We need to buy a centre half who is good in the air. Both Gallas and Toure are poor in that department. In fact the number of goals we have conceded from set-peices has increased since Gallas joined.I would play Toure at right back next season as Eboue is a poor defender. My choice to partner Gallas would be Alex but he is owned by Chelsea so that looks like a no go.
Nearly every Gooner wants Ribery to be signed, i think that says what we think of Helb,
Upfront i would take a chance on Darren Bent he has scored goals in the premiership for a poor Charlton team. And he has a physical presence which is what we have lacked with our strikers. I would also be looking at Defoe who wont be at Spurs next year.He is an out and out goalscorer who would get 20 plus goals in this Arsenal team.
Finally if the club fails to show any ambition in the transfer market does anyone think Henry will stay if Barcelona come knocking again.

Thought the article was an interesting exercise, didn't agree with all the exits and signings, but makes you wonder whether we need a good clear out.
Personally I think all the players we have have great potential, it's just getting them all to click. With TH14 back I'm sure that will inspire a lot of the newer players.
Oh and I thought these figures were a bit unrealistic:

Let’s assume AW has been given £15 to bolster his squad.
If it’s true that Willie Gallas has fallen out with some of the younger members of the team and notwithstanding the fact that he has been indifferent much of the season, let’s take £12 from Real Madrid for him.
