Almunia OUT vs City

Post by RaM »

Twisted his thumb in training, Lehmann to come in.

If Lehmann has a good game, will it be enough to make Wenger reconsider him, or will Almunia come straight back in?

I suppose if Amlunia's only out for one match it would be unfair to take the position off him, but if his injury somehow lasts for longer than the expected week, and Lehmann performs very well, it might warrant some consideration.

We haven't had much chance to see Lehmann's current form though. Hardest thing about being a second choice keeper is showing your ablility, and to do this an extended run in the team is usually required. Seeing as second choice keepers don't often get this, they do spend a lot of time on the bench.

Ask Almunia.

That's why if Lehmann only gets one game (barring a game where he saves a heap of certain goals and a couple of penalties to win us the match) then he won't be getting the starting spot.

What would the situation be if Ze German had buggered off? Could Fabianski cope? Well not with shots straight at him if the Trottspur game follows his career path. I think, take away the Blackburn howler from "a friend of ours" and we'd be 2 points clear, it matters little who's in between the sticks as long as they can do the basics, which England's N01 has so far, so I for one am hoping him back sooner rather than later. But I do love you Jens, just because you're crazy...not Britney Spears crazy or even Hitler crazy to a lesser extent, but still a bit mad!

Think Almunia has done very well. But don`t thnik Jens coming in will do any big difference for us. And think Alminua will be the first choice even if Jens do extremely well. He is gone after the season anyway.

Great to see the forum is back :D

Not that I expect it to happen, I hope Lehmann resumes his position as first pick - as was shown last time he was dropped from the first team when his form became erratic, he'll come back strongly.

Almunia doesn't have the same erratic moments as Lehmann but he will always be a more limited keeper than Lehmann because his skills and reactions aren't as good. He's done well but he was, for example, still at fault for both the goals against United and one against Sunderland. Solid but limited is the way I'd describe Almunia - and that's not good enough for the first choice keeper.

And Fabianski is a long way from ready. Assuming Lehmann does leave in the summer, we'll need to sign a new keeper, as either first or second choice.

If le boss sticks to his strategy of playing a different keeper in the cups. Then Jens could get a run of games through to the Cup game at OT. So 3.

Come on Mad Jens - show us who the real No.1 at our club is :D :D
It's a pity that the game isnt at the emirates cos I think that a great reception for the mad german would be just the tonic he would appreciate before the game. Here's hoping he does brilliant and keeps his place for the rest of the season now.

By the way 26/5/89 I would also blame the spanish waiter for the penalty conceded in the first few minutes v boro - where the fcuk was he going

Would it be better reception though if the fans thought he would be in for a few games(maybe more) instead of just the token fa cup appearance chippy ? I'd like to think jens would and that he is still a popular figure with the fans 8)
