Nice win for SAFC, played much better without you know who (as we did at Chelsea), Newcastle dropped points in the last minute for the second game in a row
and now Villa v Man City on the tele- ha'way City, someone go right through Darr£n B£nt and break both of his fucking legs so badly they can't be set back in place

I rate Darren Bent actually. I know he played for the scum but he's a bloody good finisher and has scored goals wherever he's been.
Lets face it, anyone who can score 32 goals in 58 games for a shit team like Sunderland must be half decent
Imagine how many he'd score with the amount of chances a decent team like Arsenal would create for him

You wouldnt want him. Benty is a class goalscorer, I'm not going to turn round and pretend he isnt, but he needs to have teams set up to play to his strengths, which means balls over the top for him, constantly. He hasn't ever forged a good partnership with anyone, which is why Spurs tended not to start him and were happy to let him go, and why we needed to try replacing Jones with Gyan in an attempt to find him a partner he could do well with (which didnt work).worthing_gooner wrote:I rate Darren Bent actually. When Bent was with us, he ended up getting a ridiculously high percentage of our goals when he was on the pitch because everything was played up to him and he doesnt have the ability to bring other people into the game- if it doesnt drop to him for him to finish, the move breaks down. Today we played much better with Gyan up front by himself- if you watch MotD you will see numerous times where Gyan plays people in, most notably a great pass for Richardson's first goal, Bent simply doesnt do this. Today was one of our better performances of recent times since we were able to maintain possession and the ball was sticking up front, in direct contrast to recent games with Bent in the side where we have struggled to get a grip.
this was up there with the Chelsea away game as our best performance- another game in which Darren Bent didnt feature and again a match which saw the ball stick up front and saw the goals shared around the team (Gyan, Onuoha and Welbeck that day). This inability to bring people into play, added to poor control and first touch, is why Bent doesnt get the chances for England that his goal record would seem to suggest he deserves
Arsenal would be a much worse side with Bent in the team, despite the goals he would get you, which is why Villa were the only side interested when it was obvious he was available- he wouldnt fit your style of play at all and you would end up playing horrible football and wishing for Bendtner to get back in the side
He is great at what he is- a poacher up top who, if you build your team to his strengths and play everything to him, will get you around 20 goals a season. this makes him a valuable player, and it makes him a good player, but try to vary your style and he cant manage it, sign other players and he gets pissed off if he isnt getting the limelight. He is suited to clubs like Charlton, like us when we got him, and like Villa now who dont have another class striker and who will benefit a great deal from the goals he can get. What he isnt is a good footballer, and he isnt capable of playing in different systems, and this is why he is frustrating.
Case in point, look at today- he has scored and fair play to the *word censored* for it- he is the one up front and he is sniffing around hoping for a keeping mistake or a through ball played where he can get onto it. Other than his goal however, how often has he touched the ball? Very, very rarely and he has contributed nothing but the goal. Good enough for Villa in their predicament, but it wouldnt be good enough for Arsenal, isnt seen as good enough for England, and if an inability to hold the ball up and influence a match is combined with an inability to play effectively with a strike partner, it isn't good enough for any club who really wants to progress.
He is also a two faced, lying, disingenuous, odious, badge tapping, cock sucking, utter, utter *word censored* of a man- but that is besides the point.
