Whoops...

It's all a load of Cannonballs in here! This is the virtual Arsenal pub where you can chat about anything except football. Be warned though, like any pub, the content may not always be suitable for everyone.

BT wrote:Thats a different argument DB10 and one we've had on here before. This is about someone questioning the person's ability to understand the main requirement of her job on the basis that she is too thick and dainty to understand a simple rule of a game she is qualified to officiate at the top level.

My gran has be going to football since the 30s, my mum since the 50s, me since before Jack Wilshere was born. Its not a new phenomenon. Some female supporters do make me cringe, as do some male ones, but if i turn up at arsenal on saturday an the steward refuses to let me in on the basis i'm incapable of understanding the rules because I have a fanny and tits, and lets in a bloke who has never watched a game in life, well fuck off frankly (no offence frank).

The point is Keys and Gray wouldnt have made the assumption a male linesman didnt know the rules BEFORE kick off. Regardless what you think of women in football at whatever level, to say they don't and can't possibly understand the basic rules is insulting.
Good post BT.

The problem i have with it is it was said off air. These two goons are allowed an opinion even if it is wrong in my opinion, there are plenty of people with differing views some right some wrong, lets face it the BNP are a political party that people have the right to vote for even though they dont allow black or asian people to belong to their party!! They didnt go on TV and try to force there opinions upon any of the viewers so i think its been blown out of proportion

I have to agree with Andy Gray!

No, she isn't a looker and no, I wouldn't give her one!

On the subject of women in the men's game I guess I would be considered a dinosaur/mysoginist/sexist/chauvinist /whatever. I make no apologies. I'm not perfect. The professional game is played by men, managed by men and should be refereed/lined by men. All this PC bollocks has gone too far. Why can't women let us have this one thing? Do we insist on getting involved in their world?

I have nothing against women football fans as such and I have nothing against women in any other occupation, but I'm 43 years old and my generation went to football to hang out with their mates, escape the wife or GF and the pressures of home/work etc. It has been a bastion of male bonding all my life.

As I said I'm not perfect and am probably old fashioned and very un-PC, but I am honest, and I do not like the idea of women being involved in the men's game. They have their own game, why can't they stick to that?
I'm about as un-PC as they come but tbh whilst it doesn't feel "right" to have female lines"people", I can't come up with any good reason not to have them. We have so many dreadful male linesmen that if a woman is good at the job, I don't see why she shouldn't do it. I agree with what you say about football being a chance for some male bonding- if theres one thing i hate its when a mate gets a lass who insists on coming with him to the games, I just wish they'd fuck off and let the lad have one thing that he does without her. Nothing against women attending football per se, but ones who come along just to feel like they are part of it when going out with a lad boil my piss, and even if a woman is a good fan, i'd rather not sit next to her at a game (when they shout at the officials it doesnt sound right with their voices, and it sounds awful when they join in chants imo).

So, I'm far from being politically correct when it comes to women in football with my view of "dont mind them coming to games but id rather they werent near me", but when it comes to women running the line i have no problems. All I want is to see the match officiated as well as possible and if there is a woman who is good at the job and less likely to make a mistake than the bloke who could be running the line instead of her, then I'd rather she was there tbh.

What I would say, is that I want women there on merit. Not saying this one isnt, she hasnt made any major errors yet so she seems fine, but i wouldnt want the FA to start appointing women just to look as if they arent sexist if the women arent up to standard, nowt would be worse than them just saying "lets make sure 10% of officials are female" and the game suffering as a result

There is nothing wrong with women being involved in mens football, I love the idea of cheerleaders entertaining us at half time, ...marvellous....not officiating though because lets be honest how the fuck can they hold onto a flag when they have a pom pom in each hand

On the other hand if you give them anything resembling a batton their going to start trowing it into the air doing a nice little twirl and catch it on the spin...all very impressive but their gonna miss the odd offside surely

I have to say I cannot agree with the above.

Some of them still do not know how to give a proper blowjob and until they can master their most basic and principle funtions in life I see no reason why they should be taking up other challenges such as understanding football!

Just in......

The referee for last weekend's liverpool game has said that he was very happy with the female assistant's performance.

He said 'she did a great job ironing my kit and the half time sandwiches were delicious'

BT and safcftm - you make good points both of you and I'm not saying what I believe is right or decent, but it is what I believe on this one subject - the men's game of football.

In my work I have two male bosses and one female bosses on different projects and all shit aside the female boss is light years ahead of the two lads. I have no problem answering to her and we have an excellent working relationship. I respect her and she has earned that respect.

It's just when it comes to football I am very old fashioned.

BT - totally agree that it is unfair to judge her based on her gender. But as we've been here before I'll just recap I'm not judging her work based on her gender - I just want the men's game left to the men. Sorry.

safcftm - very good point RE the FA deciding on quotas. THAT would be an absolute disaster.
