Best Atmosphere at Highbury

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Arsenal 5 Southampton 1 1991/2 - The last on the North Bank. Which I've gone into before.

Others.

Arsenal 4 Southampton 0 1990/1 - The season before, lost 2 points earlier in the week because of the fracas with Man Ure. Limpar made two and scored one and was the best player on the pitch. Then in the 2nd half stood with his back to play arguing with George Graham for nearly ten minutes for no apparent reason.

Arsenal 7 Sheffield Wednesday 1 1991/2 - 1-1 with 20 minutes to go. It was a dull game with people leaving early (yes they did even back then). Kevin Campbell turned and hit one out of the blue which went in. The whole thing turned into a rout, which continued until the end of the season as we didn't lose any further games.
I was in the East stand for the Southampton game, with all people as my Bank Manager 8) Great result but not a match that stands that high in my list. And yes I did get the loan I was after

I remember that one, there was a big rown on the pitch before the game. The mancs tried to run to the north bank from the clock end and the north bank came to meet them, mayhem

Mancs at home

Post by QuartzGooner »

Most intense atmosphere since I have been going (1st game 1978) was Man Utd at home, 1st February 2005. Was when we were champions, first game between the clubs after pizzagate. This was before Chelsea were contenders for the title, and Liverpool were out of it too.
A night game which adds to the atmosphere. We lost 2-4, but it was such a fast paced and physical game that it took my breath away. Every challenge was full blooded, fans were screaming all 90 minutes. I remember even a man as begrudging of compliments as Alan Hansen described it as probably the best game of football to have ever taken place since the Premiership was formed.

Best recent memory was 5-3 home to Middlesbrough.
Too many other fantastic atmospheres to list here.

The best atmosphere was at the final game at highbury, there was just so much to take in! I dont think i can ever remember the North bank, clock end, west and east stand song, being sung so loud at any other game, the upper tier in the north bank was rocking when henry put the penalty away!
