phil dowd
not sure if this has already been mentioned but the absence of any detailed discussion re dowd's disgraceful decisions on match of the day, sunday supplement and goals on sunday tells a story of its own.............kamara's NEVER usually slow in coming forward when it comes to bad ref decisions, is he?

I don't think any ref intentionally goes out of his way to be biased towards one team or another, but as Jack said a bit of consistancy in the decision making throughout the game wouldn't got amiss.
ie Diaby getting a red for pushing Barton and then Nolan only getting a yellow for clubbing Szcenzy after their first goal.

Always had my suspicions with Dowd. The extra time he played against Sunderland that eventually cost us and numerous big decisions in the game on Saturday.
1st half injury time, two minutes went up. Anyone who watched the game would have seen he played just under 4 minutes, and there was a clear foul by Barton where he just waved on. Sometimes refs give sympathy decisions when a home team is getting hammered and this is what seemed the case on Saturday!
If that prick comes back to n5 he deserves a few coins in his direction just to let him know what we think. After he came back after Sunderland game he seemed to get away with it or people just forgot he was the one who stitched us!

Ok, so this time it was Phil Dowd but to be honest this is becoming too regular an occurence. We pay to see a football match and the referee ends up being the one making the headlines.
In a test match the umpire can get away with a few bad decisions, but it's unlikely to change the outcome. And even then they have an appeals process for the big matches. Exactly the same in tennis. Even though there maybe 500-600 points played in the match, you can still appeal against any one. And even rugby has a video ref, despite the fact that the higher scores in a match make any one score less likely to impact the outcome.
But yet in football - where one poor decision really can alter the outcome of the match and even of the entire season - we have no such option. I absolutely agree that Diaby deserves to go on the c*nt list for getting sent off. But I'd also agree that the other 4 key decisions in the match all went against us and if even one of those had gone our way then we would have still won the match....FACT!
But in all honesty they weren't even "decisions", they were no brainers. Nolan not being sent off was at best inconsistency of the highest order. The second penalty being given when there was no appeal and hardly a shout from the crowd was shocking. I've watched it time a time again and still difficult to come to a conclusion that doesn't involve betting syndicates in the far east.....
We contributed to our downfall yes. But the underlying feeling is that we were cheated out of two points (as we almost were against Everton as well). And if we get the same "good fortune" later in the season then it won't cancel this one out. Two wrongs don't make a right!

mk/slevin......my unduerlying point is that everyone in the game (tv pundits, etc.) know what really went on yesterday but none had the balls or honesty to say what they're ALL thinking. i repeat they all know what dowd did was wrong/dodgyn6gooner wrote:not sure if this has already been mentioned but the absence of any detailed discussion re dowd's disgraceful decisions on match of the day, sunday supplement and goals on sunday tells a story of its own.............kamara's NEVER usually slow in coming forward when it comes to bad ref decisions, is he?

This may wind a few people up but I'm gonna say it anyway!! I tried being a ref for a couple of years and believe me it is so much harder than you think. I'm in no way defending Dowd because in particular the Nolan 'attack' on our keeper had to be a red. All I'll say on the 2nd pen is that you see Rosciky's hands go up and their player falls over and there are a couple of appeals and he put 2 and 2 together and got 564. A shocking, wrong call, but from his angle, he obviously thought it was a pen. Hopefully now he's sat at home squirming in his armchair, not understanding why he gave it.
I don't believe for a second he's bent. Biased after Lee Mason and Cesc? Who knows, but reffing is a bloody hard job and all you can do is give what you see. (for what it's worth, I don't think Barton's challenge on Diaby was bad either)
Today in the Chelsea game, those 2 handballs near the end of the game. One outside the box given, one inside not. Ball to hand or hand to ball? Who cares, they lost, that's all that matters

I mean in terms of saying anything to do with them having an agenda or taking bribes - which is what some gooners are implying. But you're right though, they are selective as to what incidents they show and comment on.

You could, but they'll always deny it. Remember the response when some complained about showing and highlighting the Cesc tackle at Wolves, whilst ignoring the Henry one on Arshavin? They just come out with the usual bollocks about not being biased and that they're always accused of it by someone or other, and - this one's the funniest - because they've got an ex-player on the show, it means they can't possible be anti Arsenal!!

To be fair, I thought for once MoTD wasn’t too bad re: the talking points in our game last night. They were obviously more pushed for time than normal what with all the goals yesterday (compared to the midweek MoTD when they found 15 mins to bang on about Liverpool & Torres/Carroll
) so it was never gonna be that in-depth. And Lawrenson pointed out Nolan on Szczesny was no different to Diaby on Barton, & that the 2nd penalty was a joke.
