CAN WE BLOW TOP 4 FINISH. AND AN ADMISSION

Post by goonersid »

I think the question we should be asking ourselves is "can we fuck up a top 4 finish"? the answer most definitely being yes.
With Kos and Squillachi looking likely to be our CB pairing for a while to come (anyone believing TV will be back soon will be disappointed), Al only an injury away from being back between the sticks and a morale crushing heavy loss to Barca pending, it could well happen.
Add to this our awful home form, the spuds grinding out results and the mousers new found belief and I don't think a top 4 finish is by any means guaranteed.
This is why Wenger will now be praying that he can win the tinpot carling cup, he can then use that as this seasons "success".
So I am going to say it and you can all slate me for not being a "true fan" But if I ask myself in all honesty "do I want us to win the Carling Cup? Then the answer is probably NO.
Enough is enough, and I don't care what misfortune or failure we have to endure, if the means finally justify the ends and we are rid of this lying, pathetic excuse of a man.

Fucking hell - thats a bit of a worst possible senario

If we get a hammering by Barca - They are no doubt the best team on the planet. I hope we give a good account of ourselves, but we need to bounce back from any negative result

We have a good run of games now to really go for the league - it wont mean shit if we dont beat manure at home. If we beat them, then i believe we will go on to lift the prem

As for top 4 - it would take a fuck up of the highest order to see us slip out of a CL spot. Not impossible but thats a worst possible senario!!!

A bit of faith mate!! If someone had offered you 2nd in the league cc cup blah blah in Feb back in August, you would have chewed there arm off!!

Sp*rs, with their shite goal difference would have to gain 7 points more than us over the remaining 13 games. Not very likely. But not impossible. St Totteringhams Day is likely to be very late this year.

Liverpool have almost zero chance of a top four place. They would need to gain 12 or 13 points more than us.

I think its too late to blow a top four finish at this point. Not impossible but not very likely either. I would agree a top four finish only papers over the cracks and would add it tells the Board their plan is proceding properly, and leave us banging our heads for another year or two at least.

The problem with not finishing in the top four is two-fold. First it may not force the Board to act at this point ther than to speed sellign out if in fact that is the motive behind this current policy and lead them to sell recklessly as in to a debt-leveraged buyer.

Second even if they felt compelled to act, it might be too late. We would almost certainly lose a number of our very best players and to have to replace them and up what we would have to pay both in transfer fees and wages for their replacements and the players we already knew we had to add to the team already here would simply cost far too much for this club to pay or be willing to pay.

I should note I fist said this back in the summer of 2005. But a fifth place finish would be absolutely disastrous - Zippy was right about that much. The problem is our Board's policy is the sole reason we face that risk. And surely if it was Mr/. Wenger's policy than they would sack him now not when its too late. They are smart businessmen after all and smart businessmen stay one step ahead of their concerns, no?

We will never blow a top 4 finish with Wenger in charge. Its all he cares about and all he is targeted on.

This will never change

The first two sentences are relevant to the thread.

The rest is yet another hijack attempt.

Its exactly this type of mentality that staggers me.
Yes we are all utterly dumbfounded that a team can throw away a 4 goal lead but the fact remains we made ground on the one team above us this weekend. We are 2nd in the league .. fact. 2nd because we have more points than all the teams below us. How good would things have to be for you to be positive?!? .. have we got to be 10 pts clear?!?. Nothing personal mate, your outlook isn't uncommon on here but maybe we need a reality check. 2nd in the league, still in the FA Cup, still in the CL and in the CC Final and all we can do is moan, moan, moan.

I SUPPOSE YOUR GOING TO KEEP TELLING US THAT WE HAVE ONLY LET 1 MORE GOAL IN THAT MANURE AND THAT OUR DEFENSE ISNT THAT BAD.

WELL NOW ITS 5 MORE

MANURE LOST 1 GAME

WE LOST 5

WE NEVER NEEDED A NEW CB. NO OF COURSE NOT FFS
