Fast forward 15 odd years and rather than having to deal with a Shearer inspired team who were top of the league , we managed to fuck up against Leon Best and a mediocre Pardew led rabble that had more back bone than the hunch back of Tyneside himself , Peter Beardsley compared to our Yellow livered spineless Jellyfish .

Wrighty and the team that day , led by a fresh faced (and ideas) Wenger
epitomised what it meant to be The Arsenal ,with your backs to the wall and thou shall not pass mentality . Not only to have the gate keeper Adams himself sent off with three quarters of the game to go but then to have the nerve and bollocks to score a winning Goal encapsulated what that Team was all about . No luxury of a 4 goal margin , arguably , nay probably not as technically gifted , playing a Team that was a serious unit to be reckoned with but we snarled , bled and ground out full points .

That was then , this is now . Always difficult to compare teams and players of old but Wenger is still the common denominator and with that you have to examine and consider factors why basic virtues such as
defending , leadership and the desire to win in adverse situations no longer course through certain players veins .
If as Arshavin said was true , regarding Wenger's lack of Words post match , maybe as has being done previously by some lesser club could be employed . Get a depressed travel weary Gooner down from the Sir John Hall stand down to address the poor darlings , maybe that will inspire them WHEN we next require them to be men fitting to wear our
famous shirt .

As a slight variant on Wengers post game comments from the aforementioned game , these are what i would have filled the dressing room air with .

" How long have you being together , where the fuck was the camaraderie , and right fucking now , on this performance , there is absolutely fuck all special about this team "

Oh agreed but during that dark period as fans we never had any expectations about the team then. They were shit, they knew that and so did we! That's why Saturday was the sort of shock and embarassment that is still difficult to accept.
