West Ham get Olympic Stadium

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I don't really get the big deal with all this. Are all Leyton Orient fans now going to start supporting West Ham instead then? Even if that were the case, the two probably wouldn't both play at home on the same day, so fans won't even have to choose between the two.

Also, in the 1800s, I could understand that local clubs would be worried about other clubs moving in nearby as it may dilute their fanbase. But, hello - it's 2011, and there's these things we call cars, trains and buses which move people around the country. It's not as if people living in East London were physically incapable of going to any club other than Orient before now if they'd so desired.
It's all about the next generation of potential Orient fans. If kids grow up seeing West Ham in the Premiership on their doorstep then the chances are they'll support them rather than the O's so long term it could be bad news whoever won the bid.

Personally I reckon MK Spuds does have a certain ring about it

it is definitely good news because the only reason spuds wanted to move was to make life easier for them financially. not only on building costs but also not needing to contribute anything to improving transport infrastructure as they will have to if they return with their tails between their legs to Haringey Council and the redevelopment of the Lame idea.

They also wanted stratford because it is much easier to get the corporate crowd to there from the city and west end, so easier to sell boxes and prestige (i.e. overpriced) seats.

so they cannot catch up with arsenal on the cheap. happy days. they'll have to do it the hard way like we had to.

bloody opportunists.

Allocation for us should be a good 10,000 8)
That's nothing, you can't really see it on the scaled down version, but in last night's standard you can see the advertsing boards have "UEFA Champions League" on them !

I've said and other have said that this thing was a win-win for us
- they win it and they leave North London to us and can stick all the Woolwich Wanderers crap up their manky unwashed arses
- they lose it and they face a choice of a cripplingly expensive redevelopment of WHL or sticking in a 36k stadium and the limit on revenue that means

So if it is a win win we should look at other factors and for me it comes down to limiting the heamorrage of taxpayers money on the Olympic folly. Which means the Spurs bid is better. The spammers plan will fall flat, they'll end up potless and the loan from the council will be delayed or written off.

According to the news no decision has been made at all, it will happen on Friday when the meeting takes place.

Course its been made. They're not going to wait till midnight to decide are they?

It has to be West Ham, the fucking country wouldn't accept what Spurs are proposing. Plus If Palace move to where the athletics is, then the Crystal Palace athletics will be suddenly wiped from Boris' budget requirements which he'll like.

And Barry Hearn can shut up, they got offered the stadium

who cares if west ham cant fill it...i certainly dont, as long as spurs dont get it i dont care what happens to it.

yeah it would be funny for about 5 minutes if they moved there, then when they start spending the massive revenue from it on top of what they already spend and overtake us, it wouldnt be so funny would it.........

Spot on. The fun about not coming from North London anymore would soon go if they ended up above us

The last thing i want is for us to be sat there languishing in inferiority mumbling and groaning about them having moved location. Then our transformation into them will truly be complete.

They can go fuck themselves if they think they'd be welcome up here...... !

Mind you, weren't Dublin trying to entice a league team at one time....? DB10. How about it?
