drinking in view of the pitch

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

drinking in view of the pitch

Post by minty99 »

last night at the match like a total idiot i was arrested for drinking in view of the pitch (can of lager) and drunk and disorderley.
was taken to the police station and am due to appear in highbury magistates court next week.
whilst at the police station i fully coperated and admitted the charge.
There is no excuse for this and it was totally my fault.
What i need to know has it happened to anyone else on here and whats the worst that can happen to me.
any advice greatly recieved.
cheers

Sorry that your experience of a great game was ruined. I hope they don't go too hard on you.

I think this lad got away with it:

Being a dull set of *word censored* they will probably push for a banning order (probably 3 years) and a fine. Hope you avoid that mate

Did you take a can into the game and drink it in the stands?

Contact the Football Supporters Federation mate, they have a whole department that deals in offering legal advice for fans in situations like this. Like you say, if it's your fault then you'll probably have to cop the punishment whatever that is, but they should be able to advise on the course of action etc. It's a fucking ridiculous law though...

It's fucking shit mate. You can drink in view of a pitch if you're at a rugby match or a cricket match like, I can even drink in my seat at the stadium of light if I'm watching a concert, but do it at football and it's a banning offence. They still think all fans are mindless hooligans who can't be trusted even though we are now paying a fucking fortune to watch our teams. Treat anyone else who pays a lot for entertainment like football fans are treated and there would be hell on, but they get away with it every time against football fans. Clubs and police / stewards = scum

The thing with this was, I thought they were only gonna take alcohol off you if you were causing trouble, yet they seem to have gone completely power crazy with it as usual. Yesterday on Hornsey Road, outside the Costcutter, there was a line of OB taking cans off everyone who went past - just innocent guys having a drink, causing no trouble at all. Pisstake.

Take the risk myself but reading this makes it hit home how much a can can cost you. Hope you're honesty gets you a fairer deal

The law is an ass and there is a tremendous bias against football fans.

Did you ask for the duty solicitor? You should always, always do that.

Not too late to get some legal representation to help with your defence and fight against a banning order.

Did you kick up a fuss to get the D&D?

You might get a bit of leniency if it was Amstel or Heineken, proud sponsors of the UEFA Champions League.

If it was Carling or Fosters you are fucked.

To be fair, if he was drinking carling he probably deserves a banning

That's bollocks mate, surely a warning and making you shit yourself is enough of a punishment?

If Roly is truly a top level lawyer, now is the time for him to not be a *word censored* and help a gooner. I wouldn't hold your breath though, unless you like the colour blue.
