drinking in view of the pitch

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Surely they have to prove you were disorderly? If you were just drunk but not being a menace to others, is that actually an offence?

Plus is possessing alcohol at the ground actually illegal, or just a UEFA rule?

Meanwhile touts openly do business all around the ground :(

The maximum fine you can receive for Drunk and Disorderly is a fine of one thousand pounds (more likely to be about 100 - 200). However this does count as a relevant conviction under The Football Spectators Act 1989 where the court can impose a football banning order -

Banning orders made on conviction of an offence.

Depends which section Minty has been charged under. Could be summed up as "Pissed and lippy"

The thing with this was, I thought they were only gonna take alcohol off you if you were causing trouble, yet they seem to have gone completely power crazy with it as usual. Yesterday on Hornsey Road, outside the Costcutter, there was a line of OB taking cans off everyone who went past - just innocent guys having a drink, causing no trouble at all. Pisstake.
To be fair they have been doing this since the start of the season not just weds night. At the bolton game they actually watched me walk out of there (Costcutter) with a few cans and then as soon as I opened one they made me chuck them away. Sure somebody said when this was discussed before that once you are up the stairs/over the bridges and just outside the ground they cant do anything as you are on private property and not a public highway?

On another note, for most night games throughout the winter i have a hip flask with something to "warm me up" on the cold nights - stewards have openly seen me chugging away during games and have never done anything? Whats the difference between that and a can of lager?

It's fucking shit mate. You can drink in view of a pitch if you're at a rugby match or a cricket match like, I can even drink in my seat at the stadium of light if I'm watching a concert, but do it at football and it's a banning offence. They still think all fans are mindless hooligans who can't be trusted even though we are now paying a fucking fortune to watch our teams. Treat anyone else who pays a lot for entertainment like football fans are treated and there would be hell on, but they get away with it every time against football fans. Clubs and police / stewards = scum
We really need to start some protests or at least try collectively to get our voices heard..

I emailed my MP trying to get him to support a safe-standing bill but never got a reply. Im sure the idea of thousands of football fans descending on parliament would make them sit up & take notice 8)

Should organise a mass drinking protest right by the big ARSENAL letters.

Yeah it was probably me.

If you look there is a sign, tiny thing, by the Cannons outside the Armoury there a sign which says. "Alcohol fee zone" or something. But that’s the boundary.

I found this

Now I'm no expert at this and I'm not 100% on the rule but it seems odd that the old bill are always on the periphery of the Grove.
Yet as soon as your outside the gate people seemed to be freely drinking and there's can's everywhere. :?

There are laws to deal with drunken and agressive behaviour. That should be enough for the OB to intervene when necessary.

Stopping drinking in the streets is an infringement of peoples rights.

Nothing stopping someone getting legless in a pub next to the supermarket.

No real offence has been committed by swigging from a can. What exactly are they trying to prevent?

These laws are made, upheld and prosecuted by rugby fans who can't undertand why everyone can't mix together to watch a game.

If Roly is truly a top level lawyer, now is the time for him to not be a c**t and help a gooner. I wouldn't hold your breath though, unless you like the colour blue.
Roly is moving offices so isn't on line so he wont see this, but if you pm him he might be able to help
