The Arsenal, The Arsenal

It did sound quite good but the Scum after Tottenham didn't seem to work in my opinion.

You were not alone in being lashed up in the Rocket.
I hope to God this doesnt catch on. Such a boring tune.

And doesnt anyone think just starting to sing the impossible dream all of a sudden will sound a little bit silly? It has no connection to Arsenal what so ever. The reason why YNWA works so well is because it has so much history and attachment to Liverpool.

Just picking a random song to become our 'anthem' just like that will never work. It has to have some relevance to Arsenal. Words to songs will have to be changed if they will catch on.

That is an interesting link to see how Liverpool fans came up with that new song of theirs. Find a song with a good, catchy tune (not god save the f'ing queen) and put words to it that relate to Liverpool and spread it around/sing it in the ground till it catches on.

There is no doubt that we do need some new, original songs. The only songs that are sung with any volume at AB are Arsenal, Arsenal, Arsenal etc, by far the greatest team, stand up if you hate and Adebayor. A very sorry state of affairs.

For all the good Redaction have done in getting some singing going (god knows what it would be like without them) imo they should have come up with a few new songs. Easier said than done I know, but as fans we are so unoriginal and un creative. And they have such a good opportunity to do it, sitting together home and away and the rocket etc.

Personally I would like to see us singing 'maybe its because im a londoner'. This used to be sung at away games in the 80s. Problem with it is that obviously not everyone is a Londoner, so perhaps change the words to
Maybe it's because im an Arsenal fan
That I love Arsenal so,
Maybe it's because I'm an Arsenal fan
That I think of her wherever I go.
I get a funny feeling inside of me
Just walking up and down.
Maybe it's because im an Arsenal fan
That I love Arsenal so.

Best link I could find.

Personally I think that could catch on and would be a decent song to sing. Simple and catchy. Could obviously add the bits like 'get off my sister' etc. Better than a corny song like the impossible dream with nothing to do with Arsenal imo.

Anyway, to the people who are organising this good job. Someone has to do something.
I see were you're comin from mate. My mate this song;

We are Arsenal Pride of the south
and we hate tottenham because they're all mouth
we'll follow you over land and sea
In Victory Through Harmony

After hearing this - http://youtube.com/watch?v=Tpj3kFxYWNk
And we started it at the bolton match at AG went on for a gd 10mins sounds class when loads of people sing along.

P.s. And as for us Gooners being un original dats very unfair and you must have sat in the west stand at Highbury and in the east now. We've made lots of class songs over the years E.g. "We're on our way", "B'Jesus said Paddy", "Ooh to be a Gooner" and "She wore a yellow ribbon".

I know it's tough for us all to watch this (this is the first I've seen of the celebrations as I left straight away) but I love this song. I heard it as I was walking from the stadium and have been singing it for almost a year now!

Like the Liverpool fans trying to adapt to the PAOK song I'd lke to adapt this song for us, but I'm no Bono!

The Red Action website has a lot of old songs for anyone who wants refresh their memory...

Like the sound of that one, good job. Hopefully it will catch on next season. A few too many words for your average Arsenal fan now a days though I fear.

My 2 cents

Ok, Just sat here and read through all 10 pages of this thread and must admit, i am all for the idea, and am all for some of the suggestions.
In my opinion, Impossible Dream is a good shout (please excuse me only being 21, but it is the song from the Honda advert isnt it - bloke in a car/boat/hot air balloon) Although i prefer the Bridge over Troubled water idea. Just the sheer thought of x amount of thousand people with scarfs held high singing at full voice (well, singing at all would be good), it would be amazing.

I sit in the South Stand lower tier due to being with a supporters club, the atmosphere is rarely electric there, and as much as we ask for seats in the North stand, it never happens. At times it feels like the lot i travel up with are the only people interested in singing. For all i care the Arsenal Anthem could be "Postman Pat", i would still sing it at full voice at every opportunity. Arsenal need that 12th man, we need to give them it!!

One song i am suprised doesnt seem to have had a mention so far is "Stand by me", again, being young i couldnt tell you who sung it first, but i can guarantee you one thing, im not on about the bloody Oasis version. The one im on about goes.......

Lean on me,
When your not strong,
Ill be your friend,
Ill help you carry on etc etc etc

Anyone that knows who sung it, please feel free to let me know.

The one thing i am sure on is, whatever song we choose, the words have to remain original. You would never see liverpool start singing "Gerrard, Gerrard" instead of "Walk on, Walk on".

As for the people saying YNWA has 40 years history at the club, which makes it so special and that we could never re-create it. I ask you all, be you young or old, just sit back and take a thought, in 40 years time, you, your children, your grandchildren, or your grandchildrens children could be sat at the Grove singing out the song that we pick now. We will make that history for ourselves, we just have to be positive. Football fans are like sheep, people will follow on. If one person sings in the pub, a few hundred join in, if a few hundred sing in the ground, a few thousand will join in. If week in week out 10000 people sing this song, each week more and more will join in!!!

Someone mentioned earlier that not everyone has a scarf??? Even Manchester City gave out a free scarf to all their fans at the end of the season just gone, im sure we could do the same. If not, £7 will buy you one from one of 3 shops around the ground! Failing that, get your nan to knit you one.

As for REDaction should have made up more songs, i am 99% sure that when VP started coming into his own at highbury they made up......

Robin Van Persies magic,
He wears a magic hat,
He'll be the next dutch master
Arsene will see to that.
He'll score them on the left wing
He'll score them on the right.
And when he goes to shite hart lane,
He'll score all fucking night.

This is obviously to the tune of "My old man", its a very catchy, well worded song.

SO.............................

What does RVP end up with???

Robin Van Persie clap clap clap clap clap.

I rest my case, not to mention, when the Gunners finally sign a young english talent ahead of Chelski, we honour him with Theo Theo Theo...

Not very inventive either.......

This seems to have been a very long 2 cents, but let me just finish up...

Arsenal have a wonderful history, but lets keep making more. We need a better atmosphere, we need this anthem and we need as many people like ourselves to make this happen. If this is the only song that gets decent vocal support at the game, it doesnt matter, it would be fantastic.

GODDAMMIT! I want to be stood up at the Grove in years to come, with my red and white scarf held firmly above my head, full of pride, with a tear in my eye singing so loud i cannot talk for days after knowing in my heart that we done this, we made history and we are all fucking proud to be in that red and white!!!!!!

Sorry for rambling, thanks for reading.

What's wrong with the RVP one? I've heard " Heeeeeeeeeeeeey Van Persie Ooh Aah I wanna knooooooooooooow how you scored that goal..

As for Theo why not "Theo, Theo, Theo, Theo Born is the king of Ashburton.

Cesc - "We've got cesc fabregas" is pretty ***** so why not an original tune like say;

Fabregas
Superstar
How many goals have you made so far?

What do ya think?

N22Gooner - Good shout on the Fabregas song. I could see that catching on. Not too sure about the Theo one - not because it isn't a good song, but because he is far from being the king of anywhere...but I must say, I have long wanted that song to return...

I have to agree with the last couple of posts. I moaned to my brother in the Chelsea game as to the repetitiveness of football songs these days. It seems like every fucking song is to the tune of "We've got Cesc Fabregas". I'm bloody tired of it. Are there no more witty songs we can come up with? (Bring on nostalgia of "he's blonde, he's quick...").

I digress. This is the thread about the club anthem, so I'll give you my two cents. Bridge Over Troubled Water - nice song, but I don't really want to be singing a song at The Grove that is in any way associated with Hear'Say (remember them?!). The Impossible Dream - Great, great song. Not too sure if it'd catch on. Can't see the crowd singing it spontaneously. Would be good over the PA system every once in a while, though.

I think collaboration on here over the summer is the only way we're going to get it to happen. The problem with getting an existing song that relates to Arsenal is that, it will probably have to be about London - and so therefore, it could apply to any of the other 12 teams from the Capital. I reckon one needs to be written by us. Before we get too adventurous, I think it needs to be to an existing tune, maybe to an existing club's anthem (no shame in that, Celtic sing "You'll Never Walk Alone" and no one grumbles about that - we'd just have to make sure whatever tune it is, we make it our own). Once we have a provisional song, it's all about getting it into circulation. It won't happen over night, but if the 'calling the names back' thing can catch on, than anything can!

End of rant...
