Emirates Stadium Possible Expansion to 100,000 Seats

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Have you got a source for that? "We promise to never expand the ground past this capacity" seems a bit of a silly thing to agree to.
I did the emirates stadium legends tour with Charlie George and he said the same thing.

It's not a silly thing to agree to, the transport infastructure couldn't cope with an increased capacity. It's jam packed round there as it is on a match day.

It won't happen. End of.
Agree with the above, i think it was one of the things the club had to agree to or permission for the stadium wouldnt have been accepted
Sir Henry also agreed for the club not to sale alcohol or for alcohol to be allowed in Highbury when the club bought the ground.......
That lasted a year!

No not written, I went to one of the open council meetings before the stadium was agreed. Others are right, if we hadn't agreed to keep to 60,000 we wouldn't have got permission originally. Same as we can only hold 6 non-football events at the stadium each year ie: concerts etc.

I know an easy way to get 100,000 in, rip out all the seats behind the goals and make two huge terraces, simple :barscarf:

The point that annoys me, is the part of that we couldnt have 5000 seats around the ground closer to the pitch "because of new stadium regulations" and the "2018 World Cup"...12 years after it was built....

How come Spurs have planned to do have seats really close to the pitch. They care about the fans thats why...

Can't they build those close seats anyway? They can just cover them up in the event England hosts the Wor--

Oh wait.

Structurally possible but as many others have said, highly unlikely to happen.

The article accuses the club off reneging on a promise to expand Holloway Road tube station, but that plan had to be abandoned when TfL demanded the club pay the lion's share of £60 - 70M to do so, much rather that was spent on players.

What's the point if you can't see a thing, might as well save your self the price of a season ticket because with the way things are going with the EU ruling many fans will be getting them selves foreign decoders for the armchair view not forking out £2k for a binocular view of the action

Wouldn’t they have to excavate the pitch to add extra rows at the front? Be surprised if they did that considering how much the stadium design was supposedly based around ensuring the pitch got maximum sunlight etc - even to the detriment of the acoustics. As Reg said, the most likely way would be to just reduce the size of the seats & fit more people into the same space. Doubt any of us would mind them doing that in a few blocks around the ground & having an unofficial turn-a-blind-eye standing policy in them like they do in 5 & 6. Bigger capacity & better atmosphere. Not that we really need the former right now.

I always thought the intention was to increase the capacity anyway. Just a matter of time. With regards to the fans being too far from the pitch: have you been to the Nou camp?

Of course they can increade the capacity. Why would they fuck themselves by not being able to?

Irt would be nice to see the Grove expanded but the hike up to the higher rows is very steep....another 40 rows would be too much. It is so sad seeing this elderley man walk past my families two seats as he slowly makes his way to his seats. Imagine what it would be like for someone in their advancing years to get up in the upper tiers.
