Try playing with no Fab4

Post by Blade »

Yesterday for 74mis we saw the future vision of Arsenal without our Fab4.

Step up Samir Nasri.

Midfield resembled headless chickens, frankly its was worrying.

Maybe my post should go into the final thread but...

We beat Brum at home 2-1 without Both Cesc and RVP. Theo was an unused sub.
Hopefully Kos and RVP will be playing.

Lukasz Fabianski
Emmanuel Eboue
Sebastien Squillaci
Johan Djourou
Gael Clichy
Andrey Arshavin
Jack Wilshere
Samir Nasri
Abou Diaby
Alex Song
Marouane Chamakh

Arsenal without Cesc are obviously a far weaker team, same as any team in the world, bar maybe Barca, would be. But I wouldn’t read too much into how we played last night after Cesc went off. It was just as much, if not more, down to us switching off & into coasting-mode. We’ve done that countless times before in the same position when Cesc’s still been on the pitch.

Cesc going off was the trigger last night that saw us lose focus & momentum/rhythm, but it was probably already on the cards with us 1-up & Stoke prepared to just sit back & keep it tight in the hope we’d panic going into the last 10 minutes & concede from a set-piece. We’ve had a habit of letting ourselves get lulled into a false sense of security & ending up getting sloppy for years now. Scum at home, Everton away, 2-2 at Shammers last season etc… all of which Cesc played in.

Any team with Nasri, RVP, Jack, an on-form Arshavin still has a good amount of guile & creativity.

A world class player out of the team = team doesn't perform as well.

What a fucking surprise.

Hard to tell as Stoke had a plan to break up play and get us on the set pieces all night, as ever. Cesc/Song/Wilshere is a great basis for most of our attacks but there's no reason why Nasri can't fit in there. Though I agree he's not at Cesc's level in terms of vision.

I reckon Cesc might stay one more year. He made some interesting points in the Barcelona programme about how Puyol and Xavi had told him to be patient and that they hadnt won a thing until a few seasons ago. He's won Fa Cup, World Cup, Euros and captains his team.

The summer was spurred on by him being injured and in Barcelona/with Spain for several months, having his head turned. This summer he'll be less distracted and Barcelona have even less money to spend on him. If Carroll is worth so much, Cesc's price has gone up further still.

Arsenal's financial position is strong enough that they can resist big money offers from Barcelona anyway. So we hold the bargaining power. I think Cesc honestly loves the club and wouldn't hurt us if we told him to play out his contract here, taking the financial loss.

Cesc leaving is dependent on a space in the Barcelona squad, as well as the cash.

Question in my mind is if Barcelona sell Keita, would they replace him with Cesc, as whilst both are midfielders, Cesc is more creative, Keita more of a "continuity" player?

I think they would, if they could afford Cesc.

I think a front man in RvP, with any three from four of Nasri, Ramsey, Arshavin and Walcott, offers a lot.

Wilshere could play attacking midfield too, he has done well there before.
If Frimpong or Coquelin do well, one of them could partner Song in deep midfield, freeing up Wilshere to play further forward.

nasri isnt fit yet, hes more than capable of filling the void when cesc leaves in the summer.

get mascherano and 40 million to spend on say i dont know a proven central DEFENDER and a decent winger like sanchez and you'd be stronger imo.

"68% - Since the start of last season, Arsenal have won 68% of PL games with Cesc Fabregas, compared to 44% without him." - OptaJoe on twitter.

I don't think Wilshire is mature enough yet to carry that responsibility.
