I dislike them both, mate. It's ignorant hateful people like the majority of their fans that have fucked my country up for the last 800 years. Sectarian wankers the lot of them. Politics should never come into football in my opinion.SammyDroppedHisShorts wrote:I am English born and bred and prefer Celtic....sort of blows the English love Rangers concept out the water...i like Celtic coz i like their strip....

I'm not bothered about Catholics as I'm neither Catholic or Protestant (not religious at all), and I have no problem with the vast majority of the Irish. Just I have met a few Rangers fans at England games over the years who have been good lads and I like the fact that they are proud of being part of Britain (again, not an anti-Ireland thing, but I live in Scotland where England are seen as the enemy and people keep going on about wanting independence, so I like the fact that Rangers don't, since I am also a fan of keeping England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland united). I also like the fact that they sing England songs like 10 German Bombers (although changed to "the RAF from Britain", but still), Dambusters, God Save the Queen (I realise not only an England song, but still), Rule Britannia etc

celtic play better football, best mate from uni is proper celtic so i PREFER celtic of the two. saying that, all clubs supporters have *word censored*, the old firm seem to have a higher representation of cuntishness... as bad as each other.
when bartley went on loan though, i obviously want him to do well and so its properly confusing and with diouf in the mix...

what i will say though, sankt pauli shit on hamburg

...too far?

Sunderland as I understand from those in "the know" around these parts have always had an affinity with Rangers.DB10GOONER wrote:That I don't get. I really don't understand why we have to have scottish 'football' on the box in England. All this 'old firm' massive clubs stuff is nonsense- the only thing that they would be 'big' at is being nasty, mouthy, racist, bigots. It was good to see Bartley getting stuck in that tunnel though, took me back a few years to when we used to get stuck in and try and start a punch-up every week.
Not a fan of the old firm particularly (as an England fan I unsurprisingly prefer Rangers like, but not too arsed one way or the other), but they are both massive clubs to be fair- okay mainly due to the political stuff (and how shit the rest of the scottish league is) but they do have huge fanbases and a lot of titles (like i say, i realise scottish titles arent the most prestigious, but they still have a lot of them, and celtic have a european cup)
For me they are both mindless sectarian arsehole clubs that breed ignorance and hatred.
Both are scum as far as I'm concerned, and for what it's worth, Lennon would knock six shades of shite out of Mc Coist.
I will always try to watch the Old Firm games when they are on, although I don't really care who wins, I just enjoy watching the 'madness'.
The stories this week from the Scottish Police are that each game costs the taxpayer a minimum of a million pounds, in court cases, investigation, jail time etc.
Diouf is a proper twat, winding everyone up, but a few years ago it was Di Canio doing the same from the Celtic side ; getting sent off, arguing with the officials, whipping the crowd up into a frenzy, etc.
The match on Wednesday was crazy , and I remember a similar one about ten years ago, where there were red cards and crowd trouble everywhere. There was a Celtic fan who actually fell out of the upper tier at Parkhead when everything was going crazy. The cameras showed him being taken away on a spinal board, with his head strapped down, but he was still conscious and he had his arms in the air, and was chanting and clapping along with the songs as they loaded him into the back of the ambulance.
Madness.

Not particularly true imo. Like many places there is a bit of a split. Used to be the case at Roker that a lot of people would have those half and half hats/ scarves/ badges etc, but some had Sunderland/ Rangers, others had Sunderland/ Celtic. Even now, there are threads on the Sunderland message board with people having quite heated debates about the old firm, and there is a relatively even split. A few incidents recently (mainly the booing of the minutes silence for Remembrance Day, the booing/ abusing of troops during the Emirates tournament and the banner display about not wanting poppies on their shirts) have made a lot of people who were previously complete neutrals decide that, of the two, they prefer Rangers, but like I say its still a bit of a split in most places.goonersid wrote: Sunderland as I understand from those in "the know" around these parts have always had an affinity with Rangers. One thing with Sunderland, we had a testimonial for Gary Bennett a few years back and Rangers came to play us and they wrecked the place and were going around with knives etc, there is still a bit of bad blood over that so its definitely not a love in of any sort! Newcastle is similarly split between the two
Like I say, as an England fan I would obviously side more with Rangers than Celtic if I had to choose one, but by and large I agree that they're both *word censored*
I was referring to Gers and Celtic as scum, not Sunderland. Just read over my post and it could easily have been misinterperated.safcftm wrote:Not particularly true imo.
