Vermaelen
Gibbs
Arshavin (Was world class when we bought him, confidence dropped this season but last season scored his fair share of goals and was magnificent for the part of 08/09 he joined.)

Could be filed under above category:

Koscielny
Djourou
Chamakh
Sagna (Is a good right back but defensive mistakes ruin his games)
Walcott
Clichy (wouldn't be dross but wouldn't fit into above category either since his decline starting in Feb 08.)
Lansbury

Dross:

Squillaci
Eboue (even though he has cult status)
Almunia
Fabianski (Increased confidence means better performances, but as soon as it gets knocked again he could be back to his old paper wrist self.)


There are obviously a bit more dross than the first category, two thirds-ish of the dross category play every game/every other game, and the fact is theyre nowhere near good enough to play for us, but keep being rewarded with bumper contracts and ridiculous wages for doing fuck all else other than failing. We rely on our world class players to pull us through in games, they couldn't properly manage it against Sunderland, and again today, minus a few of them. Like I've said before, this team needs a serious clearout of the deadwood and to be replaced by more proven quality, but all we'll get is some kid from Saudi Arabia who is seen as the next Walcott.

Talent/potential is obviously nice to see, but wouldn't it best work when the team is full of experienced heads and nurtured by them, ready to be their replacements?

No to Gibbs - not yet anyway
No to Song - he won't sit and not mean enough
Sagna I'd move to proven
Chamakh and Wally knocking on proven door

The problem is too many people believe a Board of men is in fact bigger than the club and are unwilling to apply the asame standard to them as the manager.

As I said we all want the rot to stop, which m,akes it absolutely essential we figure out precisely what the source of the rot is. Get it wrong and things will only get even worse and more painful and even embrassing.

van Persie - not willing to agree here. He has never been fit long enough to prove anything except that he is injury prone. He has class I will agree with that but his apathy tonight stank the place out
Nasri - show me a big game, any big game, where this guy has done the business. Improved yes but proven winner I think not
Wilshere - absolute class but again has only 6 months top flight experience so can hardly call him proven can we ?
Sczcesny - nowhere near proven. Has fcuk all experience even
Song - dont make me laugh. Being the best we have in a position where denilson is the only competition does not make you a quality player
Vermaelen - team defensive record last season was poor and seeing as he has been on holidays for the last 6 months we cannot call him proven either
Gibbs Not even the best left back in our club - had an absolute mare tonight and is nowhere near proven yet
Arshavin - was proven quality but has badly regressed. Am willing to wager a different manager would get more from his talents though

The inclusion of Gibbs, Wilsh and Szczesny is based on what they've shown since they've been playing, Gibbs looks like one of our future players, and I don't mean 2/3 years, I mean 10-15 years from now, he's pushing Clichy for the LB spot and if not for injuries could already be occupying it. Remember was it his England debut, he was the spark in the team that gave England urgency. All three have performed when put into the line-up, would you see Almunia making those saves Sneezy has this season?

With regards to the disputes about the others, I guess they can be seen as true, but they've been among our better players this season other than Arshavin, Vermaelen, injury yes, immense last season. Standout of the defence, if he had a proper strong partner he would be considered world class, I have no doubts about that. I also forgot to add Ramsey, Fabregas replacement?

I have always argued that building our team around cesc is the main reason why we no longer play with any real pace
