I’ve got no issue with the regular renewals, it’s clearly a response to the Webster ruling & us getting burnt contract-wise a few times in the past. And I understand that to get players to commit to longer contracts these days you’re generally gonna have to offer a pay-rise.
But the problem is we have too many young and/or substandard players on relatively high wages for that constant renewal policy. Youth players on £10k before they’ve barely kicked a 1st-team ball in anger/lethargy. By the time they’re ready (or not) to be “squad playerâ€
