He also made a great cross for a goal when Cameroon beat Tunisia in the quarter-finals.

Thanks fellow gooners for bringing this up as I too was about to. Song has made me eat my words with his performances today. Another great CM in the making.

i personally find it strange saying this but i don't want to sell him off & as of late changeing my words about him
we missed him the other week at the Lane & with his pace & strength shown at Blackburn he will be useful for us at some points
pitty he is away at the moment but good luck to him as he has just started to break through in Africa

Song is very unfortunate to have been called up for this tournament as I am convinced that Wenger was going to play him alongside Gallas - the last game before his selection he made the squad ahead of Senderos.

Song has been named in the tournament’s Best 11:

Essam Al-Hadari (Egypt)
Geremi (Cameroon)
Wael Gomaa (Egypt)
Michael Essien (Ghana)
Sulley Muntari (Ghana)
Yaya Toure (Ivory Coast)
Alexandre Song (Cameroon)
Hosni Abd Rabou (Egypt)
Mohamed Aboutrika (Egypt)
Amr Zaky (Egypt)
Manucho (Angola)

That is a brilliant achievement for someone who had not played at international level before this tournament.
