As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I think you go a bit far there. No doubt David Dein played a huge role in helping acquire those players, but I think his role was in pushing inside the Board Room for the needed ambition from the club while keeping that ambition under some control - Responsible but ambitious spending.
Babu will know this but I warned back as early as 2001 that there was a fight for the club's soul between the money men and the football men and that I said as early as 2006 that the money men had won, which was later confirmed when David Dein was apparently forced out.

I don't believe it! How is that possible?
Some serious questions need to be asked!
Hope all's well mate.
Good good. Planning for Brazil 2014 now.
Anyway this is some proper football gossip innit?
The more I think I am confident about what I think is happening the less certain I am
How are you and Mrs Babu? How was your latest bit of vaction?
Outstanding. Went to South America. Peru, Bolivia, Argentina and Brazil, a few months out there. Had a very pleasant time, and recharged our batteries very nicely, thanks.
Serious bit of gossip, btw, although like I said previously I think it's just Lady BS selling the shares.
What would please me is if Usmanov came on board - with David Dein - and kept Wenger in control, but with less power than he has now, and maybe a bit of a guiding hand at times.
We certainly need a bit of a change of direction, and with Usmanov spending his own money ( like he offered to do previously ) and David Dein and Wenger getting stuck into the transfers, maybe we could get out of this very tedious rut that we find ourselves trapped in.
Just imagine DD and Wenger going out with cash to spend this summer. They wouldn't have to go mad, just address the problem areas that I think everyone and their dog has identified by now.
Wenger said himself that this season would be the last with his project if it failed to bring results, and - although the season isn't finished yet and we still have a mathematical chance of the PL - I think we all believe that it's gone now.
Cautiously optimistic, although of course it could just be an announcement that we've decided to re-decorate the Boardroom.
Good to hear - I need to travel more often again soon.
I don't know about Lady nina - certainly a viable possibility but they are already saying it regards Board Room Changes and there has been no announcement of any shere sales today as is required.
They're offering a new bond issue for the Board Room's redecoration?
US martian-------no one cares what you think you know about the board.or what you and whats-his-name used to get up to.or even how your vaccation went.
one thing is for sure, dein was the one with the negotiating skill. also the one with the worldwide contacts,i honestly think we've probably missed out on a signing or two because wenger didnt want to disturb them or couldnt find a phone number.Dein got things done
I'm not sure there's any relationship between Usmanov and Dein other than strictly business, so if it came to it, I wouldn't think Dein would be too influential in who was manager at Arsenal. Just my opinion. Usmanov used Dein because of his knowledge and contacts at Arsenal and within the game, whilst Dein was given a chance to get back at some of the board members.
Anyway, these rumours will likely be BS and nothing to talk about.

Will confirm that 100%.
OK, if DD and Usmanov are coming - which I am sceptical about - then I think we would get cash to spend, and Wenger and DD are quality together when they've got cash to spend on super-super players. That would be a dream-scenario.
DD getting the cash from Usmanov, and then AW finding the targets and DD negotiating with the Club and the player. Sorted.
Of course it could be that we're being sold down the river by Kroenke and his leveraged debt. Kroenke buying Lady BS's shares - and possibly Fiszman's too, if he's too ill to continue - and the Club is History. IMO.

Cheers Babs.
You think we would be History? I hope not, though i agree that would be risking the club's future as we are already in a pretty deep bit of dbet(albeit managable debt) already. I would hope though that no one involved with such an arrangement would evenr be forgotten or forgiven for that.
I agree about Messers Wenger Dein and Cash working together though. Could see some big changes for the better and fast.

barely a decent signing since he left
and a proper Mr Arsenal to boot
A quick mention of a vacation. It was 3 lines. What is your problem?
And if you're going to be like that, then who cares what you think you know about Dein?

If Kroenke gets his hands on the Club and loads us with even more debt then I think the end would be near. Especially if we then continue to stagnate like we have been doing, but with more expenses.
When AW and DD were working together and the Club was spending money we were on top of the World though, so fingers crossed it's that scenario.
Wenger knows the problems allegedly - if the bids for Reina and Subotic in the summer are true - and with Usmanov investing his own money we would be looking good again.
And I agree with Duffman (or Daz) that David Dein was the negotiator between them, but what he really did in my mind is he was able to get the extra money out everyone - our Board for for buying players, and other clubs's Boards when we were selling them.

Oh I agree completely with your reasoning on why it would be so worrying. I just hope it wouldn't be that bad or as bad as it could be at least.
I think you are right about Messers Wenger and Dein working together again and if we has some money from Usmanov to work with things could take a big turn for the better.

I think he's just had to too much Duff, Man...Homer doesn't handle it too well either...
BTW no one has called US Martian since Daz....can't be, can it?
I never touched him, your Honour!
Yeah, my first thoughts were that he's a sad drunk, but I couldn't leave it. Not a very pleasant welcome, was it?
It can't be Daz though. Daz is articulate and can spell. Duffman can't punctuate, doesn't know what a capital letter is, and can't spell.
BTW I see what you mean about thatnot being Daz, just funny how he came out with that all of the sudden. Actually thinking about it surprised I haven't heard that more often
And yeah see why you replied too. I 've gotten used to him and well kind of ignoring him. But don't tell anyone

Unless it's Daz's mentally retarded half-brother?
So you have 'chatted' with him before, have you?

And you've already fallen out with him. Good going USMartin.
Although, to be fair, I've only seen the one post of his and I dislike him already.
