Time to defend

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

You are entitled to your opinion, Sammy. I can't agree as I believe the club has stagnated under him for 5 years now. I love what he achieved (in the past) but that's what it is to me; the past.

I regret he has lost his way like this and I regret that I want him gone, but it doesn't change the fact I want him gone.

Contrary to what some of the lesser intelligent AKB posters (Louder, Zippy, Iceman) say, it is not because he hasn't won a trophy every year for the last 6 years. It is because he refuses to address the issues of squad strengthening over and over again. And now adding yesterdays press conference I believe he has lost touch with reality. Read the quotes. They are the words of someone that has lost it a bit... :(

Agree with all of that. Whilst I would love a clear out in the summer I don't want Wenger overseeing it.

Spot on, sums it all up for me I'm afraid. All good things must come to an end and this is the end unless he can learn to admit and address his mistakes. We can all see what they are, why can't he?

BINGO!!!

While I don't think any gooner would be happy with a long baron spell without a trophy, if we could actually see the manager addressing the glaring faults within the team (inst that meant to be his job after all??) then I for one would accept it, back the manager, because success would surely follow.

Sadly Arsenal's seasons are becoming like a shit novel, you know the what's going to happen in the end by chapter 3.

Spot on Rodders. Did anyone ask for him to go once during the Sept 1998 - May 2002 dry spell?. Did anyone lose faith? That was THREE years of no trophies. But the difference was we could see he was trying year after year to build a stronger squad. And you could see the improvement as the team grew.

Agree 100% with you both.

His comments in that sky article are shocking:

"We have been in the Champions League for 15 years, and there are only two clubs who have done that in this country - it is us and Manchester United...Trophies are one way to judge a club. They're not overrated as it allows you to say you have won a trophy, but would you swap winning the FA Cup for playing in the Champions League?"

He's right, it is us and United that have done that, but they have also consistently won other trophies and don't suggest that their fans accept EITHER a trophy or the champion league. They provide them with both, which is exactly what AW and the squad should be aiming for and achieving.

At the end of the day the people responsible for our downfall this season are the club itself. That's why it's dispointing to be second best/first loser.

But this has all been said a thousand times before, hasn't it? Therein lies the problem.

He puts faith in players that wouldn't even walk into a League One side. The obvious dead-wood players need moving on but I can't trust him to run this club anymore if he cant see that we need a clear out. After seeing PHW's comments today, it makes me wonder what AW has to put up with on a daily basis, or whether they hold the same view. Despite all of this, I want AW to be succesful at this club again but we need signings and if certain areas aren't addresses, I doubt i'll be attending too many matches next season.

But we've been playing in the CL since then and that is still like a trophy so technically we've won 6 trophies.
