I like ChrisCatchpole's idea of a pre season knockout premiership cup. That way the teams can go abroad, do charity and PR work, and fans can go on summer holidays to see games.
The tournament could finish two weeks before season starts, to give players time to recover from flights and time zone differences.
Teams could win points for each round they qualified in. As there are 20 teams there would only be three rounds, leaving five teams at end who could get five points each.
The losing teams from earlier rounds could play each other for maybe three or two points.
All points get carried over to league table.

Here's a good idea why don't we call it the World Premier League and have each side decamped to a capital city each season somewhere around the globe, each city bids for it each season.
So we can have the Tokyo Arsenal, the New York United and the Melbourne Liverpools.
And then there can also be the World Primera League, which can be a rival league where we have the the LA Barca and Real Madrid Jakata.
Then we can have the World Serie A where......I think you'll get the picture.
It will work - it will, it will, it will......
Look quite frankly I couldn't give a toss for the global market - you might turn up at Heathrow and sing 'oh Rocky, oh Rocky', but you probably didn't have the slightest inclination to see the guy play in the flesh, where I and other London and Home Counties Gooners did on a regular basis.
I really couldn't care less if you twats call me xenophobic and narrow minded - I've been around the block too many times to fall for your Primary School psychology and also know a few big words of my own.
Fact of the matter is - this globalization guff is globalony - you have no right over our cultural real estate any more than we or Chelsea have a right over the wealth that accrues from the natural resources of other nations to pay the stupid wages of players who can't kick with both feet. If you wanna watch a Premier League game - either invest in a trip to London or build your own league, it's really that simple.
And as for the money - well I've never believed that there is no higher ethic than to make a few quid - and if you believe that there is, then offer your wives for the London Gooners next bukkake party. Not merely a gratuitous insult on my behalf - if you really think money is everything and what it could be spent on is more important than how you came by that money, then accept our offer - after all she's only your wife and money is after all everything.

Arsenal doesn't belong to Londoners but Arsenal does belong in London. Anyone who wants to visit Arsenal are welcome, whether they are from Tokyo, Dubai, Moscow or 5 minutes away from the stadium. They are loads of football clubs around the world, not only in England. So I don't see why football fans in other countries are so starved that they want to see the Premiership.JBGONI wrote:I find it difficult to understand why London Arsenal supporters believe it is only their club. Arsenal will have to be play some matches outside UK to satisfy its worldwide market. If Arsenal were come to South Africa, it would have a full house,I have no doubt about it.
The only trick is how it will done. That it is necessary I have no doubt

If the foreign fans of Arsenal are benefiting us so much financially; why don't they do it to their local clubs who they can watch regularly? For example, Japan is modern, has a high standard of living and is wealthy; if Japanese football fans contributed to their football and raised the level of the game like they supposedly have done with Premiership. Then I am sure that more good players would be interested in playing down there.
Despite saying that, I have doubts that foreign fans have contributed a lot to Premiership. I mean where the Premiership would be if English football fans wouldn’t have visited stadiums when it was shit or when it is expensive like nowadays; also it is English fans that have sponsored Sky by buying TV season-tickets. I also wonder how the atmosphere would be if Arsenal vs Spurs were in Dubai, Liverpool vs Everton in New York and Man Utd vs Man City in Tokyo. The whole “odd-gameâ€

1) Most of the players change clubs - the core of a football clubs support does notI find it difficult to understand why London Arsenal supporters believe it is only their club. Most Arsenal supporters are now outside London. Most of the players are not from London.
2) Most Arsenal supporters are from outside of London - it's called the home counties - such people don't expect the mountain to come to Mohammed. Many of Arsenal's overseas support cite Arsenal's links with players from their home country and/or our wonderful play - both of these things have not always been the case and may not be the case in future. On the other hand most London Gooners will have a connection with the club that is close by.
Arsenal do play matches outside UK to satisfy overseas markets - have you not heard of the Champions League or summer tours?Arsenal will have to be play some matches outside UK to satisfy its worldwide market. If Arsenal were come to South Africa, it would have a full house,I have no doubt about it. The only trick is how it will done. That it is necessary I have no doubt
The fact is you cannot play a 39th game outside the UK without compromising the integrity of the PL - so what if Arsenal are playing 5th place Everton to decide the title and United playing Derby. What about if one side is playing in Melbourne, the other in Dublin and the factor of jet lag. How are they going to play simultaneously, is the Melbourne game going to kick off 1AM local time.
The whole thing is fucking ridiculous - it's a no brainer - something only people with NO BRAIN (as David Baddiel once said "that's you that is") would think workable.
Have you heard the one about the Irish man who was disappointed about the cost of going to London to watch Arsenal. He was excited about the prospect of spending money to go to Tokyo to watch them instead. As an irish gooner i find this anti-play abroad/keep afc for the english thing insulting and narrow minded. It costs me roughly €600 to come to London and watch the lads. I have been lucky enough to have the dough to come 2 or 3 times a season.
Fuck me even Jim Davidson could make that gag up!
Yeah well done. Buying forged tickets to get into a game, I heard there was that sort of 'passion' at Hillsborough in '89 also. Try cooling the passion and using your brain!Heck for the final match at highbury i paid a tout 400 stg for 2 forged tickets and got arrested for it. Don't give me this shit about foreigners not having the same passion as our english counterparts....
Dont get me started! I just told some of the Irish lads who go to the games what he posted - they pissed themselves with laughter at what a tool hes made of himself!!Cus Geezer wrote:Have you heard the one about the Irish man who was disappointed about the cost of going to London to watch Arsenal. I don't remember saying i expected anyone to go anywhere - read my fucki*g comment properly arsehole. Here's hoping next time I'm at the stadium I'm not seated near you....hey hold on.. no that won't happen, you'll be sipping your own piss in the club level I suppose. Even worse, you're probably the C*nt that sold me the tickets...
Vic Crescit - fair comments...though you can have the All Ireland anytime...traffic on matchdays is hell......lets do a swap?
What I'd like to see is more ideas on the issue. Take the guy writing in Arsenal vision. He mentioned (maybe with a tone of sarcasm) scrapping the Carling cup and filling that time with something more interesting and dare i say it with more global appeal. Ok maybe thats pushing it but we have many players (and Arsene) and fans from beyond the confines of London and we need to address this demand sometime - even Wenger has admitted this. People didn't want to knock down the North Bank and seat the place (a David Dein brainwave if i remember well), people thought when Henry and Dein left we were fucked, people resisted the move to the emirates etc etc but some (N bank apart) of these things can prove positive. Keep all options open and lets not all close the door at the same time.

Your right your lucky you have never come across me as usually im a nice lad but in your case 'd knock two shades of shite out of you!irishgooner wrote: I don't remember saying i expected anyone to go anywhere - read my fucki*g comment properly arsehole. ''It costs me roughly €600 to come to London and watch the lads.'' Gobshite! i know plenty of lads who come over from Ireland and they never spend anywhere NEAR that amount! Do you even have membership card?? because if your spending that amount i'd severely doubt it!

Your fault for buying off a tout then isnt it! as guz said its your type of 'passion' that caused hillsbrough

Adieu
My participation on this forum ends here - online gooner seems to have become uniquely a forum for gooners 2 slag each other off. in fact i almost get the impression i'm discussing issues with fuc*in closet spurs scum (ref jim n cus). Theres plenty of other excellent AFC forums around so i'll b going elsewhere. However some last replies:
Gooner Jim:
I have no problem with the irish having a laugh at my expense - heck the irish could do with a laugh or 2 in london. The smarter ones (of which i'm part of) have long made their fortunes back home. Cricklewood broadway is welcome to all the hairy arsed inarticulate moron builders like ur m8's.
Yes throwing away money to touts was dumb but hell i've more where that came from. (Maybe i'm not the dumbest paddy after all). I doubt if your Irish buddies struggling in london can say the same.
Cus Geezer:
Doesn't take much to get the old anti-irish sentiment going in the online gooner these days. The 'national flag in the emirates' discussion last yr went quickly down the same road. Cus - racism and ignorance are not that amusing.
Both Twats:
Oh and by the way I have been a passionate gooner for over 30 yrs so lets not dwell too much on the 'only 4 posts' shite lads. I won't lose this passion now or anytime in the future. Oh and that Hillsborough remark was in real bad taste - shameful and shows lack of respect for real supporters - something u guys have no idea about!
va te faire foutre!

Your not a real fan - your ignorant posts have shown that. Not only do you try and deride fellow Irish people (WHO LIVE IN IRELAND NOT IN ENGLAND!)
with your ''Cricklewood broadway is welcome to all the hairy arsed inarticulate moron builders like ur m8's'' and ''doubt if your Irish buddies struggling in london can say the same. '' comments but you have the cheek to accuse Gus of being a racist!!
The gooner forum has plenty of Irish fans on here and they are great lads! And to be honest your leaving wont be missed (at least in my eyes)

Sorry irishgooner, couldn't resist it. You should stick around, most people on here have a bit of Irish in them some way down the line - they might even have made a few quid along the way like yourself.
