Very good article on our current situation.

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

because it's easy to imagine good results from fantasy decisions

this summer we could have bought a keeper and Szcz not signed a new contract and forced through a move

Szcz > Schwartzer

we did buy 2 defenders, if we bought 1 more
JD (IMO our best defender this season) could have hardly figured and be heading out of the club

JD > Cahill

if we had bought another centremid Jack Wilshere would obviously have been the one missing out and could easily have spent another season at Bolton and not progressed anywhere near as much

JW > Palacios
JD even you know Szczesny was 4th choice at the start of the season. If the other three hadnt got injured Wenger would not have picked him on merit. We needed a new keeper because clowns 1 and 2 were not good enough. And we still do
As for Djourou just look at his injury record(he's injured now) and tell me you had faith he would go a whole season without getting injured. What next RVP to play a full season

Everyone who said we needed a new GK,a CB and a DM has been proved right again
You not far off Don...

Was it not Wenger at the start of the season that said he had 4 1st choice keepers or that he didn't know who was 1st choice?

He stuck with Al until his first mistake.
He was replaced by Flappy who grew through-out the season until injury*.
So rather then go back to Al he gave the opportunaty to Szczesny.

Which was caused by Szczesny.

The other points I agree with. Besides we were short at the start of the season so the real question should really be:
SS > Cahill? No!

schwartzer was tragic at the weekend btw

my point is simply that everyone can put forward a fantasy scenario as better than a disappointing reality
but things dont always work out as you expect

and we are still in it

In it as in realitically still in it ? Cos if we are going mathematically still in it then everybody as far down as the scum in 5th place can still catch manure  However if we are talking realistically then you would have to say that this squad would struggle to win the blue sq league much less win the premier league (ok I exagerate slightly but you know what I am saying)

Yes, the saviour of English football that is known as Gary Cahill that wasn't even capped by England at the start of the season.

Like Joe Cole, the man whose absence cost us the World Cup and has made Liverpool a major force once again.

Go do some research. Arsenal's defence under Wenger has been 1 goal per season worse off than under Graham.

This maybe true but why base the defence on the past or other teams in the prem? Its clear obvious huge mistakes are made. If we corrected the defence we would then have THE BEST DEFENCE in the league.

Hate the argument that we have let in roughly the same goals as Manure! Why cant we aim to let in far less rather base ourselves on other teams. Wenger says things like all the time.

Its time we set the bench mark, not fucking talk about how we close we are to other teams.

End of the day most teams that play us park the bus and defend all game so we don’t get that many shots against us. Put our back 5 in another team and you would get a different picture entirely

Yes, the other teams would end up with a much better defence!

The problem is that you don't see how bad every other team's defence is in the games that they don't play against Arsenal.

We can now watch every minute of every Arsenal game. Try doing it with another team and you will see they make a lot more mistakes than Arsenal.

We have the ball for much longer, as we play possession football.

We have better attacking-midfield players than for the latter part of Graham's era.

Therefore, that defence had much more work to do than this defence.

Plus there is cross-over in the defence!

Mate I get where your coming from but our defence doesn’t do as much as say Blackburn, Stoke, Everton’s or Bolton’s of the league. We make far too many mistakes compared to how many shots we get against us. Also your counting results like Sunderland at home 0.0 , Blackburn at home 0.0 and Citeh at home 0.0 as good clean sheets.

I'm sorry that you can't open your mind.
