I'm afraid I don't quite agree. I'm not dismissing your argument given how shite Chelsea and united are this year, but I think that underestimates just how lacking this squad really is. It's not 2-3 players its more like 5-6 players short and that's only if you can get a grimandi type and Wiltord type who can be effective in more than one position to replace a couple of the weak links on our bench that are forced to play too regularly to let us win.

No worries about that, as we see eye-to-eye on the need for more spending.

I'll only add that the only way - whoever is at fault foir that lack of spending - is to challange the Board on that issue - otherwise they are under no pressure whatsoever to change anything whether its their own policies or failed policies initiated by the manager. And if we assume it can only be the latter they can if its not simply hide behind the cirrent manager and let him take the heat they should be taking. That is why we can't just assume its still Good Old Arsenal like its used to be.

Again if we are honest there no really different tactics in place now now than the years where we finished in the top two every year anbd won the League three times.

The difference is the lack of quality and experience and past success in the players here now. From 1998-2005 we brought in proven players of proven quality and experience many of whom had already been key parts of successful teams or had grown in and around successful teams.

Now we buy players with potential rather than proven quality by and large and use the Premier League as their training facility istead of just the League Cup as back in 2004, and that lack of quality of experience and figuring in winning teams is much of if not all the difference really for me.

A good coach with great players will beat a great coach wiith good players far more often than not.

As for the motivation factor I think its hard to motivate over paid performers who know they are not expected to do better than to finish in the top four especially when you are one of the undermotivated as I suspect the manager may well be. I think that there is a top-down malaise among the footballing end of Arsenal since the Board made property construction and management its main priority. I don't think anyomne cares as much because they are under no pressure to from their employers and well paid to ease their wounds.

As poor as this United side is - would you really take anyone at Arsenal right now ahead of VanDerSaar, Vidic, Ferdinand, Evra, Rooney Hernandez, Carrick, Berbatov, Giggs to name a few based on how they are playing this year?

Vela and Bendtner are not good enough full stop. Chamakh probably is not good enough either unfortunately.

Neither certainly are Denilson, Squillaci, Eboue, and Almunia. I'm afraid Rosicky is not either and probably Fabianski is not. Song has moved backward as has Clichy.
