I am not being ironic:
1973-Miners national strike,(among others),3 day week and enforced power cuts.
Princess Anne marries Captain Mark Phillips.
1981-Riots in Brixton,Toxteth,St. Pauls etc,10 million unemployed.
Prince Charles marries Diana,and Thatcher "allows" Britain to be drawn into a war in The Falkland Islands.
2011- Britain facing maybe it's worse economic crisis ever,unemployment rising,and Euro -zone countries,(of which we are not one),demanding our money to bail them out.
Prince William to marry Catherine Middleton,and we steam into Lybia.
Can you see a pattern emerging?
Not disputing this, all i was saying is that football was arguably created with a very similar purpose in mind. Concede the plebs one day a week off work where they can watch 11 blokes kick a pig sack around and as a result they will be less likely to kick up a fuss.
