Will AW make it to the end of the season?

Have to say that as one of the biggest wenger critics I felt the man looked as deflated and flat in the after match interview as I have ever seen him :o

Maybe at long last he is questioning himself and his players ?

augie, the miracle aw prayed for (over the past 3-4 years) hasn't materialised and he now knows he's run out of rope rope. the cul-de-sac he's been following is nearly at its end

ill-health will signal aw's departure before the board do...especially where the cash-cow that is cl football is achieved

He looked really despondant and tired, didn't admit that the experiment had failed and change was needed but the fact he didn't blame external factors for once means that he is probably questioning himself a lot at the moment. He probably knows in his heart that this is the end of the line, even if he might deny that.

Lets hope so Augie, for everyone's sake. I can't see it though because what's different about this season?? It's ending exactly as 07/08 did; and 08/09; and 09/10.

I thought the Wigan 2-3 game last season would make even the most stubborn, arrogant, deluded man (i.e. Wenger!) see that change was needed but he just plodded on as he always does.

Someone got slaughtered on here a while ago for suggesting that Arsene is mentally ill but watching him now, he looks on the verge of a breakdown. What's happening can't be doing his health any good.

Finishing in the top four again will soon put all this pain behind us. Next season will be a fresh start. The players will be a year older, wiser, better prepared and better paid. You have to learn to be a good loser before you can start being a good winner.

Imagine how tough it must be for the players earning at least £3m a year and having nothing to show for it again? I would be sooooo embarrassed!

I don't feel sorry for him one bit. He's brought it all onto himself, let him suffer.

Never said I felt sorry for him, just saying what I saw in the interview. I want him gone before he humiltiates this club further and leaves more piss stains on the 98-05 legacy of his.

Will AW make it to the end of the season?

Post by chrisbgooner »

I have followed Arsenal for 41 years and I have experienced all the highs and lows of being a Gunners fan. I also know that being the same age as Arsene Wenger (actually he is one month older than me) that your life experience will tell you when you should give up. I think Wenger has reached that point and should retire gracefully at the end of this season. I have a gut feeling that he knows his time is up and will go in the summer.

My message to Arsene Wenger is: "you have sat too long for any good you have been doing lately... Depart, I say; and let us have done with you. In the name of God, go!"

As per my previous post, its a given i'm still in the "in Arsene we trust" camp But the man is seriously pushing me to the edge ':banghead:'
I have great respect and admiration for AW but what happened in Bolton ''.

Nonetheless i still think he is a man for the job. Our FIRST team can beat anyone's first team even on Barca's bad day, and is still a beauty to watch, for that i respect AW.
As for his decisions on our back up team, thats another story.

With a clearer ownership structure now and hopefully clearer goals and transfer kit, i think its only fair Wenger has another season.

Through AW tenure Arsenal has grown from a "decent" club into a "BIG" club with support from all corners of the world.
Maybe in a way this drought is a good thing in that it will weed out the glory hunters and keep the real fans who truly care about this club.

Yes. What this club needs is just the real fans. That will sort out all the problems. That will win us trophies.

The club don't give a sh1t about real fans. They want mug punters who part with their hard earned cash to fund Wengers experiment.

I don't think anything is going to change any time soon. He looked equally depressed and gaunt at this time last year when we were throwing the towel in at Wigan at Blackburn. I remember after that Wigan game, 3 goals in 10 minutes and for my money the worst of the capitulations, that a United supporting friend of mine commented that Wenger looked knackered and that he wouldn't be at all surprised if he walked away.

We have been here at least three years in a row. Wenger looking stressed, admitting the team has some frailties but never underestimate the power of rest in the Summer. There's no World Cup or Euros, he can finish up in late May and take a good few weeks off. Bloody hell, the rest always works for me as come July I'm looking forward to football again, where as in April I'm just hating it and looking forward to the end of the season.

I don't think anything will change. Kroenke needs Wenger, Gazidis needs Wenger, Wenger needs them. Kroenke has so much skin in the game now that he needs a year of stability; Wenger will never ever find another job in which he is so free to operate (not even an international job).

And the investment policy of the club will not change one jot. I firmly believe that there will be another long Summer of discontent ahead. We'll be hearing now for six to seven weeks about several players we are interested in signing.

Nasri and Clichy will sign 3 year deals both on better terms than current, extending the wage bill further. Almunia will leave on a free. We will sign a centre half that is either 30 years old and has never played in the Premiership, and / or a 20 year old that will be packed off on loan for 2 years.

I don't see anything different in the structure of the club, or in Wenger's comments / appearance / demeanour that I haven't seen already. Yes he might be tired....but £5m plus a year in a job with total freedom; I'd say he'll get over the tiredness in a month
