Except the biggest of all yeah? 1998 World Cup Final where Henry came away with a winners medal? Seriously, Ronaldo's best days were at PSV and Barca under Bobby Robson when he was younger and hungrier, he never really recaptured those performances for me. In those days he was fucking awsome!I Hate Hleb wrote:IN FACT, IT WOULD BE FAIR TO SAY THAT AT HIS BEST RONALDO WAS EVEN BETTER THAN HENRY!! THE MAIN DIFFERENCE? RONALDO PRODUCED THE GOODS ON ALMOST ALL THE BIG OCCASIONS.![]()

THE FINAL IN WHICH HENRY PRODUCED, YEAH? OH WAIT, HE DIDN'T EVEN GET IN THE TEAM DID HE?
AND DO YOU KNOW WHO SCORED BOTH GOALS IN THE 2002 FINAL? OR WHO FINISHED AS THE GOLDEN BOOT THAT YEAR? THAT'S RIGHT - RONALDO!!
NOW EVERYONE KNOWS RONALDO WAS ILL ON THAT DAY IN 1998 AND SHOULDN'T HAVE PLAYED IN THE FINAL. HOWEVER, TAKE HIS RECORD AS A WHOLE, INCLUDING POST-BARCELONA, AND HE IS STILL UP THERE WITH THE GREATS!!

Oh weak arguement fella, you can't fall back on Ronaldo's fit. No sorry can't accept that. 98 France's team top scorer? Henry. His best contribution in the final? Lifting the trophy. Way more important than Goofy frothing at the mouth. Yeah fast foward 4 years to illustrate a point, but I'm not going to accept Ronaldo was more impressive post Barca, he may have the trophies and goals to back it up but show me a better goal than this he scored after leaving Barca

WEAK ARGUEMENT? ON WHAT BASIS - THAT IT DOESN'T FIT IN WITH YOUR THESIS? SO ALL THE EXPERTS - INCLUDING TEAM-MATES WHO SAW HIM BEFORE THE GAME - AGREE THAT RONALDO SHOULDN'T HAVE PLAYED, BUT YOU CAN'T ACCEPT THAT BECAUSE YOU KNOW BETTER?Number 5 wrote:Oh weak arguement fella, you can't fall back on Ronaldo's fit. ARE YOU ARGUING FOR ARGUMENTS SAKE BECAUSE, I'LL TAKE YOUR POOR 'HENRY FINISHED TOP SCORER FOR FRANCE AND LIFTED THE TROPHY' REPOSTE AND RAISE IT WITH MY 'DESPITE THAT, RONALD SCORED MORE GOALS IN THE 1998 WORLD CUP. HE THEN WAS TOP SCORER IN 2002 FOR BRAZIL AND THE WHOLE TOURNEMENT AND ALSO LIFTED THE TROPHY' HAND. I THINK YOU'LL FIND THERE IS ONLY ONE REAL WINNER IN THAT CONTEST!!Number 5 wrote:..98 France's team top scorer? Henry. His best contribution in the final? Lifting the trophy. ER... EXCUSE ME, BUT WASN'T IT YOU THAT FIRST RAISED THE POINT THAT HENRY HAD WON THE WORLD CUP IN ORDER TO TRY AND DIMINISH MY ARGUMENT? WELL, I WAS IN TURN ILLUSTRATING THAT RONALDO HAD ALSO WON IT AND CONTRIBUTED MORE TO HIS COUNTRY'S WORLD CUP VICTORY THAN HENRY DID TO HIS. AFTER ALL, HE SCORED BOTH GOALS IN THAT FINAL - WHEREAS HENRY HAS NEVER SCORED IN ANY MAJOR FINAL.
AND OF COURSE IT WAS ALSO BROUGHT UP AS PROOF THAT RONALDO STILL HAD A DECENT AND SUCCESSFUL CAREER AFTER HIS TIME AT BARCELONA.
BUT NO-ONE HAS ARGUED THAT HE WAS - ESPECIALLY PHYSICALLY!!!Number 5 wrote:..but I'm not going to accept Ronaldo was more impressive post Barca, he may have the trophies and goals to back it up but show me a better goal than this he scored after leaving Barca..

I rate Henry and Ronaldo as equally good players.
Probably two best forwards to have ever played the game, when they were both at full fitness.
(I am categorizing them as the most forward player in the team, there are others through the years who I rate in the second striker/number 10 role just behind the main striker).
Ronaldo had more power and balance and ball control.
Henry had more pace, and when he felt like it, and that is an important thing to repeat, when he felt like it, would track back and tackle back very successfully. Though in his favour I believe he peaked in 2004, and carried injury ever since, which affected his attitude, though without his medical records I cannot prove it.

My original reply was supposed to come across as tongue in cheek but I don't think it did. However I am happy to "debate" these points. I wrongly used the term arguement before as we're not argueing are we?
You are assuming here, weak on the basis that's it is the easiest thing to say. Christ I could have told myself that and not bothered with the post. Had he not played at all and Brazil won his contribution to the overall victory wouldn't have been diminished as he was outstanding through the rest of the tournament. It is after all a team effort.WEAK ARGUEMENT? ON WHAT BASIS - THAT IT DOESN'T FIT IN WITH YOUR THESIS? SO ALL THE EXPERTS - INCLUDING TEAM-MATES WHO SAW HIM BEFORE THE GAME - AGREE THAT RONALDO SHOULDN'T HAVE PLAYED, BUT YOU CAN'T ACCEPT THAT BECAUSE YOU KNOW BETTER?
Again regardless that Henry didn't play in the final he still contributed massively to the team winning the world cup. You're original post refers to Ronaldo at his best, my contention is that by 2002 he was no longer at his best due to those 2 consecutive cruciates he suffered so I am counting the 98 world cup as Ronaldo at his best. Equally Henry's best was far later than 98. But answer me this, would you rather a world cup winning 2002 Ronaldo and a 98 World Cup Winning Henry in you team or the 98 loosing Ronaldo and 2006 loosing Henry spearheading your attack?ARE YOU ARGUING FOR ARGUMENTS SAKE BECAUSE, I'LL TAKE YOUR POOR 'HENRY FINISHED TOP SCORER FOR FRANCE AND LIFTED THE TROPHY' REPOSTE AND RAISE IT WITH MY 'DESPITE THAT, RONALD SCORED MORE GOALS IN THE 1998 WORLD CUP. Yeah this is where I was tyring to be tongue in cheek, certainly wasn't trying to diminish your pointER... When you postedBUT NO-ONE HAS ARGUED THAT HE WAS - ESPECIALLY PHYSICALLY!!! HOWEVER, TROPHIES AND GOAL RECORDS ARE AS GOOD AN INDICATION AS ANY WE'VE GOT TO SHOW A PLAYERS ABILITY AND THERE IS NO DOUBT HE WAS VERY SUCCESSFUL AFTER LEAVING BARCELONA.
I took that to mean you found him impressive post Barca. Quite rightly you didn't refer to him as more impressive. The point I was trying to make is that similar to Micheal Owen his career falls into 2 distinct categories, one pre injuries where he is absolutely devastating, and one post injuries where, although successfull he was less devastating. Personally I'd prefer the first Ronaldo and I don't have the facts but would be very certain he won more medals after the injuries.HOWEVER, TAKE HIS RECORD AS A WHOLE, INCLUDING POST-BARCELONA, AND HE IS STILL UP THERE WITH THE GREATS!!

NUMBER 5,
APOLOGIES.
IT DID CROSS MY MIND THAT YOU WERE BEING A BIT 'TONGUE IN CHEEK' BUT I THOUGHT I SHOULD REPLY JUST IN CASE YOU WEREN'T.
CAN'T REALLY DISAGREE WITH ANY OF WHAT YOU JUST WROTE IN YOUR LAST POST, ALTHOUGH YOUR FIRST SENTENCE IS STILL CLAIMING TO DISBELIEVE NOT MINE, BUT EVERYONE THAT WAS INVOLVED IN THE RONALDO INCIDENT'S OPINION.
DON'T REALLY SEE THE RELEVENCE OF THE SECOND HALF OF YOUR FIRST PARAGRAPH: YES RONALDO DID HAVE A GOOD WORLD CUP FINALS UP TO THAT POINT SO EVEN IF HE WASN'T ILL, IT SHOULDN'T LESSEN HIS CONTRIBUTION TO THE FINALS OVERALL. HOWEVER, YOU'RE MORE OR LESS SAYING EVERYONE INVOLVED IN THE INCIDENT LIED ABOUT IT AND THAT RONALDO JUST HAD A BAD GAME. MY QUESTION IS WHY WOULD THEY NEED TO LIE ABOUT IT?

IHH no worries mate. On the original post I made, I started the next phrase using the word Seriously to try and illustrate that I wasn't being serious previously, probably a smiley would have conveyed that better though.
No I definatly agree that he had a fit, and was a bit "tongue in cheek" himself.
The rest of the conspiracy theory beggers belief that Nike were the one's who forced him into playing and also had been behind most of Brazils friendly fixture list. Still don't know what to make of that!
What I'm trying to convey ultimatley is that had Ronaldo not been forced into playing and left on the bench say, or if he hadn't had a fit and just a crap match but Brazil had won I'd still give him massive credit for the role he played getting them to the final, just as I give it to Henry even though he didn't play in the final, cos of what he did for the cause in the matches he did play.
A bit like but not really Paul Collingwood getting his OBE for the ashes win a few years ago. What the Fuck was all that about?

Didnt Ronaldo win the golden ball at the 98 world cup? And Suker won the golden boot and the silver ball. I will never forget the 98 final, i was and still am a huge Brazil fan and i remember crying that day. But redemption was earned 4 yrs later.
Although he won the golden boot in the 2002 world cup, i thought Ronaldo was at his best and in his best shape in the 98 world cup. The injury he suffered in 99, he was never the same player even though he kept scoring goals. Who can forget his hattrick against the manscum at OT though.
