The documentary thread

It's all a load of Cannonballs in here! This is the virtual Arsenal pub where you can chat about anything except football. Be warned though, like any pub, the content may not always be suitable for everyone.

The documentary thread

Post by olgitgooner »

I just love documentaries.

The link below is for one I watched tonight.

It's all about people with special gifts.

There was....

a man who was blind from birth, but who paints beautiful pictures of things he has never "seen", he even gets the perspective of distance in his work,

a woman who sees colours whenever she hears music/noises, and even "tastes" them (this is not as rare as you might suppose),

a man who was useless at mathematics at school, but who now performs calculations that would put Rainman in the shade, who is not autistic,

a man who can withstand extremely low temperatures by raising his core temperature at will (this guy ran a half marathon at minus 16c wearing nothing but a pair of shorts, and avoided the nasty effects of frostbite on his bare feet).

All of these people have rare genes. Those genes may be "harvested" in the future. And be used to improve the stock of the human race. Along with cancer-resistant genes. Genius genes. Etc, etc, etc.

Of course, only people with money would be able to give their kids this extra advantage.

Which means that, in future, the human race might diversify into two distinct groups. One group being super clever and super healthy. The other group being unclever and unhealthy onlinegooner members.

And for my next documentary offering, I give you the story of three people who needed a gastric band operation far more than mrgnu.

It's not a pretty sight......

"Black Sun" is about a man who was blinded in a robbery and now paints what he can see, which is sort of abstract colours.
Very moving.
