Lay Off Pat Rice!!!

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Fuck him, don’t care if he leaves, gets sacked or goes to spurs. He is a yes man who doesn’t seem to do fuck all or add anything to the team.

All he is good for is playing with the ducks in Wengers hot tub. He is like Smithers from the Simpsons.

So yes I blame Pat Rice because like all the others he's far too happy to collect his paycheck at the end of the month so he's as accountable as the players, the coach, the board etc...

pat Rice is exactly like wenger, he digs his head in the sand and refuses to see the truth. Oh he may not agree with Wenger and his policy deep inside, but his act shows someone 100% behind Wenger and the actual policy....
You dont KNOW any of what u have just posted!! your guessing! cos it suits to think he is happy to collect his paycheque and do nothing!! how the fuck do u know that???? please tell me? how do u know he puts his head in the sand? u never hear him being interviewed so how do u know this? i will bow to your superior knowledge if you can come up with some proof?
OK then mate - you're saying that everyone is wrong and that nobody knows what Pat Rice does, therefore nobody has the right to question him or his methods.

Kindly tell us then please - what does he do??????

Neither do you! How do you know he doesn't put his head in the sand? How do you know that he's not just happy to take his paycheck?

Nobody has any facts to back up their claims. This is possibly the most redundant debate ever to take place.
I dont know any better than you but im not the one labelling people with unfair names!
As someone sais earlier as a player and captain he had fight, guts and a winning mentality in abundance, you dont lose that! deserves respect for service to the club!

One of the older players (Lee Dixon, I think) recounts a story where trailing at half-time, Pat Rice was having a go at some of the players and Wenger told him to shut up!! :oops: :roll: Even Bob Wilson has said in the past that rather than go with the advice given to him by his staff, Wenger said something like 'as it was his neck on the line, he would have to go with his own judgement'. I think those two stories should be enough evidence that it's Wenger's way only.

Which brings me to a point I made a few days ago regarding Steve Bould. Even if he is to be the replacement to a retiring Pat Rice, there's no guarantee that he will have any more of an impact or that Arsene will listen any more to him than he does Rice. As the coaching staff are every bit as beholden to Wenger for their jobs as the players, who is seriously going to stand up to him and tell him where he's going wrong? :?

I can see where you're going IHH and this just adds to my conviction.

Could you imagine working in a place going down, and on the day you do something right, your boss tells you to shut up and sit down?

There's two solutions from there on. Either you present your resignation, because clearly this doesn't suit your principles and ethics, or you just agree to do nothing and collect your paycheck each month.

I have my own idea of were pat rice stands....

Seriously this thread is a waste of time cos imo the vast vast majority of Gooners dont slate pat rice anyway and are fully aware that wenger is 98% of the problem in our club.

PS Can I just say that my laughing in the top line was at the laural and hardy photo and not at any of the comments since

Mate - do you not see the obvious flaw in your argument?? You don't know what he does and none of us know what he does so we're all in the same boat. He might be great but the evidence we do know doesn't back this up.

* we do know is that our defensive organisation is shambolic;
* we do know that the same mistakes happen over and over and over again but no-one corrects them;
* we do know that so many of our players are massively overpaid;
* we do know that so many of our players are massively under-achieving;
* we do know that the manager (Wenger) and his number 2 (Rice) have seen this happen every year since 2006 but they have failed to correct it.
* we do know that Micky Phelan (No. 2 at Man Ure) regularly fronts difficult interviews and is a key part of Ferguson's current success.
