Van Persie goals
one of the few (or the only) world class player we have.
dismissed goal against newcastle was nice too.
It's sad for him not to be among players who have the same commitment and skills. He must be gutted, and if nasri/Cesc are leaving he will serioulsy consider the same I imagine, despite his attachment to Arsenal.

Re: Van Persie goals
This guy is bloody legend in my eyes - if half the players in our team had his attitude then we'd have won the flippin trebleSammyDroppedHisShorts wrote:The guy is on 94 goals for the club.....some record considering how many games he has missed.
Me thinks it will mean he will stay next season just so he can be the seventeenth centurion at Arsenal.
Just six to go.
My personal favourite was at The Valley with that wonder strike....
Anyone else recall any other crackers from Van the Man?

Good player that he undoubtedly is - and I was one of those who had been keeping an eye on him and hoping we'd get to sign long before he came to Arsenal - I wonder if his goals, welcome as they've been, have come at the expense of the team?
I mean in the sense that the system we play has him as the focal point but lacks pace and doesn't appear - for some of us at least - to be making the most of the other players assets, usually ending up with 'proper' centre-forwards like Bendtner and Chamack in the wide positions, not to mention other players 'filling in' in the various wider midfield roles.
Although I know he isn't an exact replica of Bergkamp, I think he has the ability and vision to play a role behind another forward, or even revert to the right side of a forward 3 like he used to play for Netherlands.
We probably won't get the goal return of this season out of him, but that can be more than exceeded by the total scored by a combination of the front players. It would also have the added bonus of not screwing up the playing system when RVP has his inevitable injury spell.
I do know that whatever the stats may say (and I haven't checked this out), this season I seen less shots on target and less opposition goalies needing to put their annual world-class performance in against us. We just don't seem to be creating the amount of chances we used to and I wonder whether the system which has enabled RVP to score so many - amongst other things - might be to blame?

I still think RVP is the best player at the club, injuries aside. He's nearing his 100th goal after seven years with us - don't forget that it took Bergkamp eight years, and he wasn't so injury-prone.
As for my favourite goals, I always loved the equaliser versus Southampton at Highbury (2-2) in the last minute, the week after we lost the unbeaten record. Awesome finish, and an amazingly loud reaction when it hit the back of the net.
Others would be the underrated strike versus Blackburn in the 2005 FA Cup SF, and the jiggery pokery against Newcastle on the first day of the 2005/06 season (I think it was that one, anyway).
Oh, the free-kick against Sunderland at the Emirates in October 2007 (crashed in off the crossbar) was immense too.
Would actually be up for a 100 Goals DVD in time-honoured tradition if and when he reaches that mark.

I don't think you should be making new bets until you've settled your outstanding ones bud.DB10GOONER wrote:Calm down Number 5 - our bet for next season is still on.![]()
What did we agree? You reckon he'll hit 20+ PL goals? Or was it I reckon he won't hit 15 again? Fucked if I can remember, mate!![]()
But either bet is good.

Nothing agreed for next year. Love the guy but I don't think he'll hit 20. 15's been done and so has the 3/4 of a season appearances.
I'm sure we'll think of a new one for next season.
After all it's going to be a looong summer with plenty of time to decide.

What a long day that was, awful fog, awful weather, awful performance till inury time, Diaby played a fantastic 50 yard pass, Van Perse takes it down on chest whilst running and smashes the ball left footed across Howard with aplomb, amazing goalBarriecuda wrote:One of the ones I never forgot was his late late equaliser at Goodison a few years ago. Pouring rain, he takes it off his chest on the turn, touch and fucking thunders it into the back of the net to steal a point. Think it was with his "weak" foot too, although I hesitate to call it that because he's almost as lethal with the right.
He gets some stick around here but he's a fantastic player. It's not right to fault a guy who plays hard because he gets injured often. He just shouldn't be anywhere near FKs.
