I think I shall be adding the Poznan to my list of criteria for next season's Little Club Charter.
Honestly, what part of stealing another team's celebration and being so fucking tiny-minded as to actually refer to still by the name of that team, do they think is so appealing ??
It's a bit like our half-witted attempt to be German by calling out the surnames of the players after the announcer reads out the Christian name - something equally copied and juvenile

Agreed 100%.safcftm wrote:The problem with it is that it simply isnt natural- any British club that tries to do it ends up looking cringeworthy as fuck, it looks completely put on. Then you have the fact that the bloke with a megaphone type atmospheres tend to sound impressive for about 5 minutes, but then you realise there is no spontenaity (I have no doubt spelt that wrong!). One of the best things about the "British atmosphere" is the fact that you suddenly get random chants breaking out in response to an event either on or off the pitch- the wholly choreographed approach tends to lead to the same chants being chanted every game. I know a lad who spent a good few months in Turkey, he went to Fenerbache and said it was amazing to experience once, but the rest of the time it was poor, just the same shit every timeDan_85 wrote:I don't know why we're so snooty towards European styles of support when British atmospheres are the laughing stock of world football. "Oh we don't want any of that choreographed nonsense"Isn't that what support is? A group of people singing & chanting in unison... Imagine for one second that the grove was exactly like the clips on the first page, I'm certain those who had been slagging it off would be ranting about how good our support was...
There is no need to try and change our football supporting culture, we need to bring back what we used to have, not try to copy other countries ways of supporting their teams when as I say, it ends up looking cringeworthy and put on. Its not snootyness, its just about trying to support our teams in the way we always have traditionally, not trying to be something we arent
Personally I hate all that choreographed Euro shite. We need to reclaim the old style Engerlish club atmosphere. And the only way to do that is to allocate safe standing areas behind each goal where people that want to sing and chant can do so. Of course actually getting the stupid fucking FA/UEFA/FIFA crunts to allow that is another matter.
But if they won't allow something as simple as that, then honestly you have no chance of them allowing the Euro stuff.

We have discussed this previously and Mikey was particularly vocal about it and was keen to get it going where he sits : Block Six I think???
My opinion on it is the same ; It looks fantastic, but there is no way it will ever catch on at Arsenal, because it is far too much fun and most Gooners take themselves far too seriously to even consider taking part.
I have a mate who stewarded at Wembley on Saturday, and he said that when City scored, absolutely 100% of the City fans took part, there were zero exceptions.
Arsenal are far too cool for school.

I remember 2 or 3 years ago we were playing Bolton on a freezing cold day. It was 0-0 for most of the match, NB eventually scored late on.
At one point during the 2nd half as we kept putting them under pressure, pretty much the whole of the bottom tier of the Grove started bouncing up and down for a minute or two. Looked amazing. I was hoping it might become a regular thing but obviously it did not.

Well, exactly ; It's like the 'Jump up if you're one nil up' song ; Always used to get a good airing in Block 6, but rarely spread any further. Even a few years ago, when we beat Spurs 3-0, all but a few blocks completely ignored the song.paperclip wrote:I remember 2 or 3 years ago we were playing Bolton on a freezing cold day. trouble with safe standing is that i dont think it will really improve atmospheres. Might be cheaper, which will let more of the "daft lads" in, which cant harm, but what really needs to happen is to go back to unallocated standing so that groups of mates can all just go in and stand together (currently need to fuck about ordering tickets), or people can move from one bit which is a bit quiet into the more noisy bit (because not all of the standing section will be loud), but there is absolutely 0% chance of going back to proper terracing

Bloody right mate - glad you pointed it out. People seem to forget that the atmosphere in the ground is linked to the performance of the team. Apparently there's something wrong with that these days judging to the moronic singing of "you're support is fucking shit" by knuckledraggers from Wolves and the like.safcftm wrote:trouble with safe standing is that i dont think it will really improve atmospheres. If the team's doing it then the atmosphere is better - it was that way at Highbury and that way now. Look at the best atmospheres there have been this year - undoubtedly Barca and Chelsea at home - common denominator(s) being big opponents and decent performances.
Anyone who thinks extra people standing up watching us play Braga or Norwich is suddenly going to turn the stadium into a cauldron of fear obviously have short memories
There are arguments for standing - namely it would give a generation of supporters who are currently missing out on going to football a genuine chance to afford to go, and for that reason I would welcome it. But if everyone thinks suddenly we're going to create an atmosphere like Galatasaray....forget it.
