Yes Christhopher Wreh was shit but he did score 3 match winning goals on the way to the double in 1998.There are much worse than him

By a fraction, yes. Obviously influenced by the fact I think Bergkamp is the greatest player we EVER had.

But also, when DB10 was needed the most (the 2002 run-in) he provided some real magic, opening up oppo defences for our strikers/midfielders with his pin point passing.

For me Henry had bags and bags of skill and pace but he didn't match Dennis for vision and footballing intelligence. Henry would be my second greatest ever Gunner. Chippy third.

After those two you could take your pick from freddie, sol, pires, jens, cesc and kolo

As regards the worst buys how do you define them ? Is buying a player who is/was clearly shit (almunia) worse than buying a player that was talented (jeffers/wright) but who jst didnt work out ? :? Personally I would say signing almunia who was never worth a fcuk or silvestre who was clearly past it was much worse than signing richard wright. I know that he was only signed on loan but baptista def ranks up there as one of the worst buys in my lifetime
Augie

I'm sure it was in error but no TH14

Guilty as charged  I did mean to include henry even though I would still class him a distance behind Bergkamp in the level of quality

I would have loved to have put Wrighty on the list but he was just before the Premier started...Other than that the first three are obvious but the last two could have been any two from four...

Bergkamp
Henry
Vieira
Pires
Fabregas

The worst.....jesus this could be any 5 from 20...i'm not even going to try with this one, i wouldn't want anyone who deserved to be on the list to go unmentioned because i couldn't fit them in to the five......

Very harsh indeed, committed defender, pity we didn't have him in his prime.

Wreh's inclusion also harsh.

Bergkamp
Henry
Viera
Pires
Campbell

Jeffers
Denilson
Stepanovs
Almunia

Luzhny and Eboue are poor choices for the bottom 5

How anyone can put Almunia in the worst category ahead of Richard Wright is beyond me.

Almunia cost fuck all and was signed as a back-up keeper to Lehmann. Not his fault the GIC didn't sign another keeper, and for the most part he was OK. Increasingly error prone now but actually pretty consistent for a couple of years after Lehmann went. FFS - there were calls for him to be in the England squad after his display at OT in the CL semi when we had him to thank for it not being a 5-0 drubbing.

Richard Wright however - we splashed the cash, he was supposed to be the new first choice once Spunky left and he was fucking awful from beginning to end

gooner.ed wrote:Been asked by the Liverpool Post to nominate Arsenal's best 5 signings during the Premier League period as well as the 5 worst signings. Off the top of my head, I have come up with the following list...

Thierry Henry
Dennis Bergkamp
Patrick Vieira
Robert Pires
Sol Campbell

Denilson
Manuel Almunia
Francis Jeffers
Mikael Silvestre
Glenn Helder

any names you think deserve to be there instead? i am thinking name signings rather than the likes of Amaury Bischoff who cost £500,000 or something - so people fans of other teams will have heard of.
I 100% agree with the signings gooner.ed,

Could add

Reyes
Arshavin

to worst, just simply for the money we wasted on them and all the fan-fare they came with. no one expected much from Helder and some of the others on your list. but we did from Reyes, AA23 and Jeffers
