5 best and 5 worst signings in Premier League era

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

So whereas it should be (from a bygone age) people like Peter Marinello and Charlie Nicolas, I'd probably have to settle for:
- Francis Jeffers
- Sylvain Wiltord (barring one or two memorable moments....)
- Andre Arshavin
- Silvestre
- William Gallas.....
Oi, you leave Charlie Charlie out of this. The winning goal he got against The Spuds in 1984 will live long in the memory :barscarf:
Don't get me wrong....I loved Charlie. Bit of glamour in a very bleak period. And add to his habit of scoring at WHL what about his (albeit deflected  ) goals that won us the league cup against Liverpool.....

BUT, he didn't quite turn out to be the player he was trumped up to be when we bought him..... !

This is a joke right?
Which bit.....?
The list
Was Gallas a worse signing than Cygan, Stepanov, Senderos? Who would you have rathered play this season, Gallas or Squillachi?
Arshavin (as much as I don't like him and want him to leave) worse than Helder, McGoldrick, Denilson, Diaby?
Wiltord worse than Jeffers, Vela etc?

No matter which way I look at it, I can't see any way that you could call Gallas, Arshavin and Wiltord our worst PL signings.
I expected nothing at all from Helder (albeit that I thought he looked great in his first game - home to Forest???), McGoldrick, Denilson, Diaby, Vela....

But I expected a lot from Gallas, Arshavin and Wiltord - none of whom lived up to the hype. Of course though, they weren't in any way the worst players ever to wear the shirt....but that wasn't the title of this thread....

PS I didn't say that Wiltord was worse than Jeffers. They both made it onto my list....

Sorry, spent 20 minutes typing my post, minimizing every few seconds to pretend to work, so missed that you put Jeffers in the list.

The thread is best/worst signings. Maybe the players didn't live up to our expectations, but just because we didn't expect much of certain players doesn't mean they were better signings.

Ok, but every single player who ever pulled on the shirt must have been "signed", so I'm assuming that the original poster was talking about those who were trumpeted, big name, high profile signatures with press conference to boot....

Otherwise....yes, happy for you to replace my list with yours :D !
