George Davis really was innocent.....!

It's all a load of Cannonballs in here! This is the virtual Arsenal pub where you can chat about anything except football. Be warned though, like any pub, the content may not always be suitable for everyone.

I remember his supporters breaking into Headingly one night during an ashes test vs Oz and digging up the wicket causing the game to be abandoned. Think that was summer 75 a couple of months after I left school, how time flies :?

Innocent of that particular offence but didn't he confess to another armed robbery?

George was indeed innocent of the Ilford Blag ,however he was a working Villain of the Old School variety.
The campaign saw him freed but he then pissed all over his wife when he came out being seen in various east end pubs with dolly birds and hangers on as he loved the limelight and his new found infamy.
Bieng a fool he then got suckered into doing another job though with one of his supporters and some inside Scotland yard geezers at the bank of Cyprus in Finsbury Park and got captured. Needless to say he went away again.
Surprised he doesn't do Villains tours with Frankie Fraser !

i seem to remember we had a good chance of actually winning that test match as well, which was a rarity in those days of Thomson and Lillee etc.

Used to be a big 'George davis is innocent' painted on the Old Kent Rd as well
