Oh dear Jack...

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

They should make him Captain for that alone - Besides all his other abilities that qualify him more than 99.9% of the other players.

I don't think it's hiding as such... just that some (most?) find it unecessary, that's all. Others think it's offensive, and of course many have totally valid reasons for being offended by it.

What I would say, is that I don't use that sort of language myself but I don't reproach anyone for using it either as I do understand it's aimed at Sp*rs and not Jews... that said, not sure I'm in favour of positively back slapping someone with the "good fucking lad" remark either - after all, it's nothing to be proud of.

I've never quite understood why "****" is offensive. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it just a word derived from the name of the Jewish language Yiddish? There must be more history to the word than I'm aware of.

Yes, you are missing the fact that they are *word censored* from up the road!

Been discussed on here at length before.

Word itself is a legitimate word used by us Jews ourselves. But some non-Jews use it as a hate word.

Spurs fans use it themselves, and a lot of those fans are not Jewish.

So mostly, in a football sense, it carries no hate connotations at all.

One or two racists would use it as a hate word though.

There is a campaign to remove it from football because no doubt, some Jews find it offensive.
Others just know it is connected to Spurs but not to anything anti-Jewish.

But the word can lead some fans to sing hate songs, Holocaust songs etc that are out of order and people need to think what they really mean if singing those songs.

I've always found the Holocaust etc songs incredibly ironic from an Arsenal perspective as we have just as many Jewish fans; obviously they're unacceptable.

Problem with the word '****' is that it is NOT universally understood; people like my Dad, who are unaware of the footballing connotations, get really angry when they hear it at Arsenal and don't understand it isn't meant by the vast majority as a term of hatred.

I try not to use it as it offends people who don't understand but use it more often when among people who do understand; including most of my Jewish football-following friends; I'd say about two-thirds use it, especially the Spurs fans.

I think that we should listen to the Jewish Community via their leaders. If they find it offensive we should stop using it.If those muppets along the Seven Sisters Road wish to continue to use it,it is up to them. They haven't got the class to reflect on matters such as this.

I'm sorry but I have to agree with percy and flash........if the scum fans call themselves the y*d army without reproach from authorities then why should Gooners be in the firing line for calling them **** back when there is absolutely no racial or religious tone involved ? Of course the fact that because I am not jewish it might be easy for me to take that approach but because I dont have racist issues myself I genuinely believe that the vast vast vast majority of fellow Gooners are of a similar mindset. Of course if the scum fans are stopped from calling themselves by that name then us Gooners would as a result see no reason to use the phrase and all this would just fade away

There is a whole campaign at the moment to get the Y word out of football, and bearing in mind his status in the public eye I imagine he was advised to remove the tweet as fast as Cesc did with his grand prix picture.
What picture?

Completely agree.

If they wanna call themselves **** then they shouldn't get all uptight when someone else calls them it.
If you're Jewish and you find it offensive then fair enough but if you're just a spud looking for something to complain about besides your shit team then fuck off
