first team or reserves

Post by jaggygooner »

my message to AW after yesterdays horror show following whl and cardiff last season is either play all the kids or play the first team....the suspensions after cardiff last year hurt us bad in the league and playing half the first team at whl gave more credibility to the result than it deserved, same yesterday ........the win at blackburn in the league cup was even better as 10 reserves beat a team 5th or 6th in the league at the time, one of the highlights of the season.....play one team or the other the first team will win, the reserves have nothing to lose and might win, no shame if they don't

Welcome to the forum, jaggygooner :)

One thing that got me unhappy yesterday is that we brought on Adebayor and it ended his brilliant run of scoring goals. He was close to getting the all-time Arsenal record for scoring in consecutive games. Maybe that is why he dived, probably desperate to keep it going.

Wenger has stated that our young players get pushed up to the reserves very quickly and I believe that has masked the shortage in squad numbers big time. By and large young players should play at their own age level for as long as possible but cos we have such a tiny squad our young players are bumped up before they are ready

I dont agree with mix and matching first team players and youngsters in the cups .It didn"t work at WHL and also on saturday. Next season Wenger should come out and say before the carling and FA cups that he will not be playing any first teamers. Then everyone knows where we stand.
There were certain first team players who just didn"t want to be on that pitch on saturday and had their minds on Milan.

Khalid, I think the record in question is for consecutive league games - I could be wrong but that was my understanding.

I believe that this current team lacks the "individuals" who can still make a difference withing a changed side. What i mean is that success is derived because the first team players rely heavily on each other to make things work - and when it does then great. But if you remove a few key players, from any position, then it seems like the whole thing crumbles.

Most consecutive scoring appearances

12 - Ian Wright in 1994-1995, stretching from the ECWC game against Omonia Nicosai on 15/09/1994 to the league game against Leicester on 23/11/1994. This run also included 7 successive Premiership appearances, an Arsenal record held equally with Thierry Henry. Henry is second with 10 in 1999-2000. This sequence included the 7 consecutive Premiership games referred to above.

He is close to getting the all-time record in Premiership though. He has scored in the last 7 games and needs to score in one more game. Ruud Van Nistelrooy holds the current record, he got 10 goals in 8 games in 2001-2002 season.
