Just listened to The Jams Greatest, reminded me of the time me and my mate Steve from Lewes went to see Stiff Little Fingers at the B.U.F.F.,(Brighton Urban Free Festival),mid 90's(ish),the point being Bruce Foxton was playing bass for them.
I am now listening to The Squeeze Greatest, reminds me of when I used to drink in the Dog and Bell in Deptford.Jools was in our drinking school,I even lent him two books,(Hawsmoor by Peter Ackroyd, and"Great London Walks"),never did get them back!!!I remember having a smoke with Glen Tilbrook and Chris Difford in the bogs there and asking them what their new album was called, and told them to fuck off when they told me,"Cosi fan tutti fruitti" cos I thought that they were winding me up cos I was stoned!!!More to follow
Hmmm. Stiff Little Fingers and Squeeze, two of my favorite bands, I think we'd get on well, I've seen both bands many times live, they're brilliant, I saw SLF just after Bruce Foxton left them, and they gave him grief, I think he left them on bad terms...... just thought I'd share that with you..l hope you had a great night listenting to them...
P.S. I've also met Glenn Tilbrook and Chris Difford a few times, once when they did their Labelled with Love musical at the Albany Empire in Deptford, and again in Hitchen, when they did a live BBC2 gig in 1982.....
P.P.S. and met them again around 1987, when I got chucked out of a gig of Squeeze's in Hammersmith, I got invited to the after party gig by Glenn Tilbrook's missus who saw me getting chucked out (as it was out of order)...
