No but they may have set the policies that determine who can afford to sign. The very best defense anyone can offer at this point is they are happy to encourage the manager not to spend a penny more than he is.SWLGooner wrote:Sid, Augie one and the sameUSMartin wrote:SWLGooner wrote: Martin what on earth has your post got to do with Augie's? Please do that somewhere else.
First off it was sid's post I responding to and second why is it okay to slag Arsene Wenge aloner and pretend this is solely down to him being some stubborn crazy bastard who somehow has terrorized the Board in to keeping him on against their will and letting him run the club how he wants against their will.
If you genuinely want a problem solved looking at something else and pretending that is the real problem isn't a solution it's taking the easy way out.
Because the board didn't tell Wenger to sign Jenkinson, did they?
Carl Jenkinson signs....

That's what I think Marty, they are being negligent in keeping tabs on AW as he's making them money and they (we shall see about Stan's real intentions soon) are happy with the status quo in that they make cash even if we win fuck all. But I think AW is the impetus and they have simply given him too much rope, with which he is doing a very good job of hanging himself with. However this could change if Stan wants to be more hands on and see success or it could stay the same it's too early to tell.

The problem with that is they own the club - or owned it, and they run the club. They could do the same thing rReal Nadrid ihas done and sack managers that win La Liga but lose in the last four of the Champions League.SWLGooner wrote:That's what I think Marty, they are being negligent in keeping tabs on AW as he's making them money and they (we shall see about Stan's real intentions soon) are happy with the status quo in that they make cash even if we win fuck all. In other words if they say spend more money Arsene Wenger must do so or they can sack him. He cannot make them do anything because if they refuse they can sack him.
The reality is no manager can initiate any policy that the Board does not endorse and no manager can reject the Board's policies and keep his job. There is no club in any sport where the opposite is possible.
They have not given him too much rope than have given him as much as they are willign to and they have given to him solely because he has shown a willingess to act in their interest before the club's itself or not to challenge whther they are doing that.
Think of it interms of your own job...whatever latitude your manager gives you will be what they choose to give and if you go too far or outside their interests they will take back whatever authority to act they give and if challenge that you will be sacked - end of.
It's no different at Arsenal. If the Board wanted more money spoent on more expensive players Arsene Wenger would do because that would be his job and if he didn't do his job he would be replaced by someone willing to do so. He is not doing anything the Board does not want him to do or even paid him specifically to do.

Good to hear the way he talks about the club, actually came to the grove last year to watch a couple of first team games. The more i think about it the more i think its players like this we need. Genuinely passionate Arsenal men who will do anything for the cause. Looking forward to seeing him in action, hopefully his ability can match his love for the club.
On a day when we have Diaby saying he struts around in a scum shirt this is actualy quite refreshing.

Yes, I've just watched this as well. Dad's been a season ticket holder for 40 years! Hope he makes the grade because he sounds like a really nice kid.Rocky Number Seven wrote:http://player.arsenal.com/home/player/5 ... -interview

Yes, players that play for the shirt and mean it when they kiss the badge, let's be honest here, Gary Neville wasn't that talented but his love for United made him a top player for a long time, Arshavin on his day can destroy teams, his day don't come along too often and looks more like a pub player now, this kid will probably run through walls for us.Rocky Number Seven wrote:http://player.arsenal.com/home/player/5 ... -interview
