I would think the opposite quartz - if this guy doesnt work out then it will be another bargain basement flop from wenger at a time when the fans are crying out for proven quality purchases and this poor guy could get caught in the crossfire. When this guy takes to the field he will be under immense pressure as part of the wenger experiment to justify his ability at a time when the crowd frustration levels is extremely high and that wont be fair on the guy

He will be under a lot of pressure for sure.
But my guess is that he will be used in the domestic cups in his first season.
He simply will not have the experience to be dropped straight into the Premier League/Champions League (injury crisis excepted).
He is though an Arsenal fan from a Arsenal family, and just maybe he will be a bit more amenable to fans when they meet him, than some of the foreign players, and a bit more aware of things like the implications of one of our players talking about how he owns a Spurs shirt.
I agree, he will be under a different sort of pressure, he cost 1m so straight away the only way is up and the fact that he's a supporter and we know he's a supporter means that he will be allowed a tiny bit of slack, he will also probably be on such a high that it will drive him on to play well.
Him playing in the CC is no more risky than Lansbury or Coquelin playing, if he copes then he copes, he certainly won't face the same pressure Smalling did who cost a lot but coped well.

I think the fans can be a bit more forgiving when they are one of us. He does seem quite over awed and shocked by the whole thing from his interview but he has said all the right things and I think the supporters will give him the time. At least from the off it seems he cares a great deal about the club and we definitely need a bit of that

I'm just happy to see a player come who actually has some appreciation for the kit. You think his dad is going to put up with him dragging his ass on the pitch when he's been a fan of the Arsenal for 40 years? Absolutely not.
He might not be an immediate solution to our pressing concerns defensively, but I'm hoping he will be a good option for now, develop into a player, and be like Jack in terms of his loyalty and service.
Frankly if we're not going to win a trophy, at least we could have a team worthy of cheering for. Jenkinsons over Diaby's anyday

Great post Barrie and one I almost fully concur with.
However, for all my admiration/appreciation/man-crush on Wilshere, we haven't seen his loyalty yet. Yeah, we've seen commitment in spades, and passion, but his loyalty hasnt been tested yet IMO.
Ambition and/or money will always overcome loyalty.
