Essien is absolutely shot to pieces now.
Such a shame as he really was the kind of player who could have turned our fortunes around even if he was the only one brought in.
Sadly I don't think he could contribute much to us these days unless he really was nursed through the season in a, one match in, two matches off capacity.
Not really what we need as I'm sure he'd still command a hefty weekly wage to go with those sporadic appearances.

Going by last season it def looked that way. Still maybe a bit early to write him off though. He's still relatively young, even for a player reliant on physical attributes, and the Chav midfield as a whole didn't function that well - maybe too many players of a similar-ish type (Essien, Ramires, Mikel)? Fresh start in a better balanced midfield and he might still have a lot to offer. Unlikely he’s ever gonna be that Mourinho-era Essien again, but possibly still better than we're likely to find elsewhere. Could be the experience we need to bring on the likes of Frimpong too. In the same way that Song might've had an inkling of what positional sense is by now if we’d kept hold of Bert.Number 5 wrote:Essien is absolutely shot to pieces now.

If he'd hadn't come out of international retirement for Ghana I'd be much more inclined to say it's a worthwhile risk. Oh well, Barton it is then.

The quality that I've always liked best about Essien is that box to box ability to be thundering up the field on the attack one second and then busting a gut to get back and break up play the next. Its Up 4 Grabs Now wrote:Going by last season it def looked that way. And with that most certainly gone I'm not sure he has it in him to play one or the other role now. I couldn't see he would be disciplined enough to be anchoring the midfield in front of the defence and he's not quite creative enough to stay further up the field.
Fuck the Mourinho-era Essien, the Essien of Lyon is the one that I would want. An absoulte beast of a player and one who would allow a team to play with two strikers by doing the job of two midfielders a la Vieira.
Whispers the next sentence
I'm not that opposed to Barton.
Ssshhhhh.

would love to see samba here, a complete powerhouse....
I have a mixed opinion on barton, but samba would be perfect in our back four... wenger sign him up

So its June 20th and we still haven’t signed anyone! Other clubs have managed it but we wait and wait. And for who?
Me being positive about Wenger signing quality players and making us more dynamic again have all gone. Waiting in anticipation regarding possible players like Cahill, Samba, Hazard, Benzeema , Parker , Honda, Baines and Eto have turned to the realisation of the usual cuntyness of signing Scwarzer, Upson and now a few kids that he met in McDonalds.
Sign some fucking players!!!!!!!! If its true that he has been in France this whole time trying to sort out Gery than that’s a disgrace. How fucking long does it take!!!
The more this goes on the more I realise I have been scammed again. Wenger and Arsenal should be on that Rouge traders tv programme.

Funny that he could of gone to Arsenal in January for roughly 8 mil or less.augie wrote:Price on samba has rumoured to have increased due to a 15% sell on clause blackburn have with hertha berlin from when they bought him. Not convinced about being this guy but if the price starts getting high then there is no way we should buy him
Wenger should of signed him then

Blackburn are playing hardball just like they did with Utd over Jones.
Now we wont sign him because Arsene doesnt like to be told what to do.

+1 but of course wenger used his usual wanky excuse.....he thought the injured defender (this season TV5) would be back by February...mikeyb772001 wrote:Funny that he could of gone to Arsenal in January for roughly 8 mil or less.augie wrote:Price on samba has rumoured to have increased due to a 15% sell on clause blackburn have with hertha berlin from when they bought him. I find it really depressing that there is no talk of wenger being replaced and the clamour for change has gone quiet as I expected it would
Next season when we are shown up again as not being good enough, when we are getting raped tactically, when song goes awol yet again, when we go into january and feb without the anc bound gervinho and the injured rvp (
) we will again hear the demands for change but sadly at that stage there will be another season pissed away
