Arsène’s path is clear after Old Trafford (20/2)

Arsène’s path is clear after Old Trafford (20/2)

usual thread starter… If the squad had less injuries, there is certainly enough spare dates in the calendar for an assault on the treble, (assuming they scrap FA Cup replays after the fifth round). Hopefully that lack of depth will be addressed in the summer. The money is certainly there, so get the scouts working double time Arsène…

Anyhow, for this thread, let’s say we are looking at a squad of 25 players for next season. Take a look at…

ignore the bottom two, and tell me which of the players in the 25 you consider need replacing. You can justify your choices on grounds of quality, attitude, age or being injury-prone! But do bear in mind that too many changes will have a negative effect. And remember, we are top of the league with this bunch! But as someone who has got a very good deal out of the Gunners once said, never stand still…

Lehmann and Gilberto are certs to go. I would get rid of Eboue his attitude stinks and i dont believe he is a good enough player for us,did we miss him during the ANC? NO.I also dont think Bendtner is a premiership player.
There are 3 players who worry me,the first two are RVP and Rosicky both very good players but RVP keeps getting long term injuries and Rosicky plays 2 games then misses 3. How can you rely on such injury prone players. The other player that worries me is Theo. I would have loaned him out to a championship club till the end of the season. He lacks confidence and he is a million miles away from a regular starting place.

HALLELUJAH.

the penny has finally dropped -somewhat belatedly ed.

if we had stayed in domestic cups we would have been facing midweek trips to brum, wigan , `pool.

even if we get past milan, chances are very good minimal travel involved in next couple of rounds.

of course the prof had checked the fixture list.

its a calculated gamble-sod the mickey mouse cup, sod the f.a. cup, we have 5 point lead, which nobody other than a psychic could have predicted when we pulled muppets out of the hat, go for the league and anything in europe is a bonus.

had we not had 5point lead maybe prof would have had different attitude to last sat.

am amazed by the reaction to last sat - it was a waste of time, a waste of money - but with the benefit of hindsight - all too predictable.

prof will only be upset at eboue being prat again and gallas losing his rag albeit very luckily getting away with it.

enjoy the game tonight and even a 0-0 would not be a bad result.

It pains me to say despite his excellent service, Gilberto is a liability. The gulf between him and Flamini is now embarrassing. Having said that, I think if Jens wants to stay, he should. He was brilliant on Saturday, wasn't his fault nobody in front of him gave a s**t.

Don't agree with you about Bendtner- I think the guy is class, strong as an ox, but he is young and raw, learning his trade. Don't write him off just cos he's had a few off-games. Most people thought Ade was a donkey when he arrived, and now look.

Sir Wenger himself has admitted he has made a mistake playing Theo on the wing, and I think it's affected his confidence. He is a player who should be running through defences, and his day in the first XI will come. But he will learn more at our club, loaning him out won't achieve anything.

As for robin and tommy, man, those two frustrate me, the former more so. But as long as we can get match-winning performances out of these two, they are worth having. Their attitudes are absolutely faultless- which leads me on to Eboue, lord, give me strength....

I think Jens Lehmann will leave us in the end of the season, although he has been good for us so far. Today's match will be interesting and key for his future, if he puts a brilliant performance in; there is a chance he'll be reinstated as our number 1. If he is reinstated as number 1, there is a possibility that he might get 1 more year in Arsenal.

I am confident that Gilberto will leave us in the of the season. He's been a great player for us but he just isn't good enough anymore. I think a move to Italy beckons, his slower style of play will fit Serie A.

Gilberto and Lehmann are the two players who I think will be leaving in the summer. Eboue and Senderos are not doing it right for different reasons, but both are young and I can't see Wenger selling them. They have enough talent for us, they were two key players of our defense during that run to the Champions League final.

Walcott, Hoyte and Traore have potential but they haven't really been good enough in this season. Maybe a loan move beckons for one or two of them. I think Traore should be loaned out because he isn't good enough to be back-up to Clichy. I think Wenger wants to develop Walcott himself, so can't see a loan move for Theo. Hoyte is quite versatile and he's already had a loan at Sunderland where he played a lot of matches. A loan move for Hoyte would be a bit pointless because he's good enough for the Premiership but needs to prove that he's good enough for Arsenal.

Song had a brilliant African Cup of Nations campaign so hopefully he'll continue the same way. He's been quite good for us at center-back as well this season. What I noticed when I was watching Song for Cameroon, is the way he passes the ball. He does it in an interesting way, can't really explain it. The long passes are accurate and they are kind of chipped-lobbed which is impressive.

Looking at the squad, there are loads of improvements that can be done but then what squad doesn't need improvements. I only want us to buy a world-class keeper and a proper good left-footed left-winger.

its the same old story since last summer,, yes we are doing a lot better then anyone could hope for in the league,, as i write we are 5 clear with 12 games to go, and bar one or two games havent dropped to many sily points,, but our squad is lacking in good cover as was seen when traore and hoyte both played against man u,, if we could get rvp and ts back then that would be a boost so lets hope,, so my shopping list this summer is the same as last summer

a winger who can beat people and cross the ball,,
a top class keeper and a striker
