And anyway, why wouldn't he succeed? - Chelsea have a very strong, experienced squad and it looks like they'll be spending big this summer too. I think even Pat Rice could finish top 4 with Chelsea, and if Villa-Boas does, I'd imagine he'll be given time.

At first i thought this was a strange or even bad choice..for the obvious reasons...but on reflection it could be a very good one...
He's obviously learnt very well from Mourinho and has proved he can put his learning in to practice successfully, so i see no reason why he can't do that at Chelsea...
If he can find a way to get the egos at the club dumped or on side from the start he'll be OK...
Even if he doesn't win the (CL or/and the Prem) in his first season which he may well do, you never know, he'll be ok because he couldn't possibly not improve on last seasons showing, which should give him at least another season to make things happen...

Why do you think that Chelsea spending £13+m on this guy makes any difference whatsoever to the odds on him not seeing out the 3 years of his contract...? And why do you think that he'd be "given time" for keeping Chelsea in the top 4?
Abramovitch is a c*nt, thank god, who knows f*ck all about football and I'd say this new guy will have two years to win the Champions League and will then walk with another big cheque if he doesn't succeed.

I agree with you, Im honest that i know very little about the guy. But from what I do his record is very over-rated. A Europa League win a credit, but dominating potugal is what porto have done over the last decade.
I suppose we'll have to wait and see but, imo there is no way this guy can be a better coach/manager than scolari,hiddink or even anchelloti. I think its media hype.

Did any of them win a treble at the age of 33? Villas-Boas knows the club well having worked there before under JM, he will also know what is wanted of him. I hate to say it but Chavski will be succesful under Villas-Boas!! But I do feel for him having to put up with some c*nts. If things go bad and he loses Terry then everyone will go against him, Terry is a wind up merchant and ring leader. I am being quite bias as I am half Portuguese, follow the Portuguese League and admire Villas-Boas!!

Yeah but again....its porto. Lets just say a couple of years back Rangers won the europa and domestic terble would you have said smith was top class? He took over a dominant team domestically. And as you said he's 33. What real experience does he have? Its fine all is well, but what about when the chips are down?
Dont get me wrong im sure he's good, but chelsea isnt the place to try and "break it" as a top class manager. Learn your trade and buildually. There is no room for error with that owner. And he'll live to regret not staying at porto a couple of more years.
