Fever pitch on film4

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Found the book to be much better. Gotta say though, I'm unsure if Colin Firth is actually a gooner or was at time of filming, but he portrays a typical Arsenal fan to perfection! Quality.

According to this site, he became one after making the film:

"I wasn't an Arsenal fan before. But I am now. I'm a shameless nouveau convert, at a time when there's a kind of nauseating gentrification of the game going on. But I didn't become a fan because it was fashionable. While making the film, the whole thing started to go way beyond the research stage. I was kind of sucked into a family. Now I'm at Highbury whenever I get the chance.

What I gained from Fever Pitch was the feeling of camaraderie when you share moments of sheer exhilaration with a crowd. It gave me a sense of belonging that I'd never properly experienced before."

So much so he didnt support them or go to any of their games for well over a decade... Sorry he's full of shite when it comes to some parts of his book.

I love the film (just watching the end now). I enjoyed the book, but I agree with Gooner Jim that Nick Hornby is not the great fan he would have us believe. He admits to supporting Cambridge during his student days. Many fans have a "second" team (I don' t by the way) but to say you supported someone instead of Arsenal for a few years is utter bollocks. The man is an arsehole imo.
