As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
Overall I believe that if we keep our best players and bring in some top top quality, with ze right attitude and belief we will be challenging for the title again zis season.
Easier said than done, I await further developments in the transfer market knowing that I'll probably be slightly disappointed but when they kick off all will be forgotten when we win a few games and look good again.
Not a rose tinter, and not looking for Wenger out. Just slightly waivering on both sides depending on what day it is.
I'm sorry mate, but I just can't see that being the case at all, why would Wenger had signed his last contract if he had to operate within these 'seemingly' financial constraints, it just doesn't make sense,
Because maybe, just maybe, he has a real affection for the club. This is nto a new situation with Arsenal, I'm sure like me you've lived through the periods where its clear the board haven't backed the manager. I think they've tapped into Wenger's ego as well as stating the financial constraints.
So why defend him then?
I'ld like to think UI haven't defended him, I'vwe just simply given a balanced argument as to why we shouldn't put all the blame on him. As I said Wenger's mistakes are numerous. But at this moment I wouldn't sack him. You're actually turning me into a Wenger apologist.
I'm still of the opinion (just) that Wenger is the best manager for us - for the next season or two at least.....
But I don't hold with the "attractive football" myth or the overegging of the "can't compete financially" tags.
A few years ago we were a joy to watch. But I certainly went to games last season that were not easy on the eye. And far to often it was our frailties in defence that made us a joy for the neutrals to watch.
And as for the financials.....we've been in the Grove for long enough now that arguments that it's still a constraint are bulls*t. Every year we are told that there is a transfer war chest available and it's never spent. So the £10m-£20m we supposedly budget for each season should be accumulating year on year. Add to that the capacity crowds (do I recall Arsenal saying they would still be able to break even with 40k each week yet we're virtually 100% sold out each game...?) and CL each of those seasons which was also supposed not to be budgeted for and therefore a bonus.
Fact is that we should now be able to hold our own in the transfer market without risking the financial stability of the club so should stop acting like a mid table side instead of one that aludes to among Europes elite!
Noone is happy with Arsenal or Wenger at the moment. It's got to get better. Some say Wenger needs to go - fair enough. But what is beyond the pale is all this "fuck off Wenger you *word censored*" attitude.
I can;t understand how a fan would want to aim that kind of comment at one of the greatest, if not the greatest, manager in our history. And a top man to boot.
Maybe you think he's run his course - as I said fair enough. But anyone throwing the vile curses at this great Arsenal man should truly hang their heads in shame. Give your opinion but show some respect god damn it.
After all he had done before and leading up to the invincibles season I could never believe that he could fall from grace like this.
I can only believe that that he suffered some kind of gigantic mental explosion after the invincible season. The same syndrome suffered by Sol Campbell at home to West Ham!!

I think you are right. I don't think we all totally agree on where the fault lies, or whether Wenger should be kicked out. But I don't know anyone these days who could honestly be described as a rose tinter or AKB.... Think the second half of last season put paid to that!

I said Wenger is one of the greatest - and arguably the greatest (and not unreasonably so, given that he also revolutionised the club, has won two doubles, the unbeaten season, Champions League final, made the club a top ten euopean team, numerous FA cups, and balanced the books allowing the move to a new stadium - he did all this in a fiercely competitive era with the other big teams spending silly money on transfers).
Of course Champman was also a pivotal figure in Arsenal's history, and coming at an earlier time arguably more important in that sense.
If Wenger is not the greatest manager, he is certainly the second greatest.
I suggest you go back to school and learn how to read before commenting on my posts kiddo.

Routine stuff from the usual mouthpieces who present us daily with the stats facts and their PC gamers logic pouring derision and scorn on anyone who is so misguided as to not see their enlightened way.
Well it's their opinion and they are entitled to it ,others feel differently but do we have to have it every day ?

That is a matter of opinion. Both men changed the face of the Engerlish game and pushed Arsenal up to a new level both on and off the pitch. But I would counter that Wenger slightly edges it for me over Chapman because Chapman did it when we were the big money club, the Bank of England club, and Wenger did it despite the fact that Manure were by far the bigger big money club. Of course that is just my opinion.
Both great men, but to act like you are some all knowing Arsenal historian and patronise cameron326 because his opinion is different to yours is a bit lame.
In general (and this bit is not aimed at any one person in particular) I too want Wenger gone but I also agree with cameron326 that the constant howling of "cunt" at him is pathetic. He brought great success to this club and made us the envy of the footballing world by winning with good attractive football. Ok, those days are long gone and he now needs to move on so we too can move on but I don't understand how anyone can hate him after what he achieved with us and the manner in which he achieved it.
It is possible to want him out but to still respect him and what he did for us. All this hatred and bile is starting to stink of attention seeking tbh.
