Anyone remember Lee Chapman playing for us?

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Chapman was a donkey for us. He was dubbed the "Boy Wonder" but everytime I see him on old videos, I see Bendtner. Arsenal didn't have much luck with strikers after Sunderland's form dipped and Judas did a runner to OT - Chapman, Hawley, Meade, Rankin, Mariner (past his best when we got him) and Woodcock (brilliant but inconsistent).

Woodcock was class, until there was an England international coming up, the game before one he used to bottle out of every tackle going, so he wouldn't be injured for it... :banghead: :banghead:

Lee Chapman

Few people knew that it was in fact Arsene Wengers fault that Chapman was crap for Arsenal, not to mention global warming .

Lee was a late developer ,bit like Nial Quin and improved as he got older but he was woeful for us and the crowd soon got on his back .

We then bought Charlie Nicholas who immediately gained 50 lbs in weight and started sniffing cocaine, fighting spurs fans in Langhams and scoring against Tottenham and became a cult figure !

Chapman was a beanpole striker, shit on the ground, no first touch. If wenger had him he would have played him wide left.

Did see Chapman play one good game, home to Norwich think it was. cored twice, hit the cross bar but that sticks in the memory only cos he played welll :-P

He was a disaster for us, think his first game was against Stoke but I think it was at Highbury. We did lose 1-0 and the headline on one red-top read "Frankly Speaking ,there was something missing" a reference to the recently departed Stapleton. He was in an awful team at an awful time for Arsenal. The promise of the 78 team had long gone..The only decent thing was the Green away shirts.
