Apology to Mr Senderos

SMOOTHIE,

THE THING YOU HAVE GOT TO REALISE IS THAT WE DON'T WANT TO BE HAVING A GO AT SENDEROS OR ANY OF OUR PLAYERS. PEOPLE WILL ALWAYS HAVE THEIR HEROES AND VILLIANS AMONG THE PLAYING STAFF BUT ULTIMATELY WE AS FANS JUDGE THE LADS BY THEIR PERFORMANCES, AND OUR PERCEPTION OF THEM.

THEREFORE, WHEN SENDEROS WAS LOOKING SHAKY AND GIVING US ALL HEART ATTACKS - WHICH EVEN YOU CAN'T DOUBT HE HAS DONE, HE WAS THE PILLORIED AND MADE THE BUTT OF OUR JOKES. NOW THAT HE IS DISPLAYING MORE CERTAINESS IN HIS GAME AND PLAYING WELL AS A RESULT, SENDEROS WILL GET ALL THE CREDIT DUE.
IT DOESN'T MEAN WE ARE NOT LOYAL OR THAT WE ARE FICKLE, BUT ONLY THAT WE HAVE CONCERNS. THAT IS SURELY BETTER THAN BLINDLY FOLLOWING SOMEONE REGARDLESS OF YOUR THOUGHTS AND BELIEFS.

HOWEVER MOST FANS, WHEN CONFRONTED WITH PROOF THAT THEIR OPINION WAS MISTAKEN, WILL ACKNOWLEDGE IT - LOOK AT HOW ADE HAS MANAGED TO CHANGE THE FANS ATTITUDE TOWARDS HIM BY HIS PERFORMANCES.

NOW IN AN IDEAL WORLD WE WOULD SEE ONLY THE GOOD IN PEOPLE AND NEVER FEEL THE NEED TO CRITICISE ANY PERSON, LET ALONE A PLAYER, WHEN THEY MADE MISTAKES. UNFORTUNATELY, WE DON'T LIVE IN THAT WORLD SO WE ALL MAKE JUDGEMENTS BASED ON WHAT WE KNOW, WHAT WE SEE AND WHAT WE FEEL.

WHEN ALL IS SAID AND DONE, IT'S JUST AN OPINION ON THE MERITS OF A FOOTBALLER, AND IT'S NOT GOING TO END UP KILLING ANYONE. 8)

If Swiss Phil cuts out the errors and plays like he did last night then he will be praised. In my opinion the jury is still out on him

I liked Senderos since he started playing regularly for us. He was brilliant during our run to the Champions League final. But he started making mistakes when we moved into our new stadium. I really think he has the potential to be a world-class defender. He needs to become more composed, less awkward and get some confidence at first though.

big phil has formed a pretty good partnership with willy. he seems to play better and with more confidence with every game he plays. Well done to the big guy.

Its not the criticism or the jokes that is aimed at him by certain fans that bothers and disappoints me. Sure a lot of that criticism is understable given his number of shaky performances. What bothers me is the lack of appreciation when he does perform well and he has done well for us in quite a few big big matches, specially in Europe. We are never willing to look at him as more than a stop gap. I remember someone here saying as well as Senderos has done of late, he should be back to the bench once Kolo returns from the AFC. And what happened when Kolo returned? He didnt look ready and we conceeded 4 goals in one match and he got injured within 7 mins in the other. We didnt miss Kolo during the AFC, thanks to Big Phil, the Milan match has been a mere icing on his performances of late. I think Arsene should continue with him, like he did with Almunia. At the moment our defence with Senderos in it is not looking any weaker than Gallas and Toure as centrebacks. Infact judging by the number of clean sheets we kept of late with Senderos in the side, it looks stronger.

Another thing about Big Phil is that he is a confidence player. All his good performances for us has been when he have had a decent run in the side. Food for thoughts maybe.

I thought swiss was excellent last night but I do feel that when he has been heavily criticised by fans it was down to his on field showing and not personal. From my own position, and I think this feeling is widespread amongst fans, is that we really really want senderos to suceed - I know you can argue that we want all Arsenal players to suceed but I think that there is more for players like senderos who may not be englsih but still came through our system and because he played such a big part in the run to paris I feel he is viewed as more of a Gooner than eboue & even hleb who both have their critics. That said we havent been blind to his shaky performances this season and a lot of us are concerned that if it is going to take him 3 or 4 games to get in the groove every time he is called upon then those games could prove costly while he is settling in

Yes Smoothie, give it a rest now. People have been won over by Senderos on the whole for a while now, and yet, every time someone says something like "bloody hell, he's playing well" you seem to follow it, without fail with a post along the lines of "told you so!" or "hopefully now everyone else on here will lay off him". The point is, people are laying off him, and have been laying off him for a while now. We get your point, you backed him for ages...there's no real point carrying on like Big Phil is still getting loads of stick on here, because he isn't
